By: Dave Wilson Click author's name for more of his/her articles

Scented votive candles have lots of different uses either individually or grouped together to create a nice design and glow. Votive candles really are great mood setters whether it be for romance or entertaining.

So what is a votive candle?

A votive candle is where the wax is set straight into a small container, with a wick in the centre, all of which will give about a 15 hour burn. There are votive candles that can burn for far longer due to the type of wick they use. Votive candles are different from a tea light candles which is a candle set in a small metal container and is used to place inside objects such as a pumpkin.

Most people associate scented candles with votive candles and this is probably a fair assumption as most of them are perfumed.

Scented votive candles can be used for a variety of purposes. Why - you can just use them because you like the look and smell of them when you sit down with a glass of wine in the evening. Below are some of the ways to use them for more special occasions.

Weddings

A grouping of scented votive candles down the centre of the tables, make a lovely table centre piece. They can be kept in the traditional white or there can be an introduction of the bridesmaids' colors either via the candle holder or the candle itself. You can search for the aroma that says something about you
Another choice might be to have them lining the front of the brides table and this will have a very romantic effect. The cake table looks very romantic with groupings of votive candles as well.

Pool Parties

Votive candles look great scattered around the pool at night when there is a pool party. Using floating candles in the pool is really stunning. Having a series of candles around a spa bath is very romantic and just so lovely to experience while having a luxuriating bath and if you enjoy aromatherapy the scented votive candle is the way to go.

Dinner Parties

A selection of scented votive candles is lovely to have at a dinner party. In groupings they make a pretty arrangement and if scented can really make a room smell beautiful. They can be grouped on the table, with a little extra effort they can be used as a way of designating where each guest will sit.

You will notice that scented votive candles do look best in groupings or displayed with other material to create a particular type of setting as in some stones or driftwood in a spa room or some red roses on a dining room table and so on. The one drawback to scented votive candles is that each scent usually does not mix well with other scents. So - if you are looking to mix color and not aroma you may want to get unscented candles.

Scented votive candles are all about ambience and they should be unobtrusive so do not get a scent that will overpower
