Shaving Irritation: How to Prevent It

By:

Shaving irritations are common to both men and women although women do not shave daily like most men do, but they cover a greater surface area. Shaving can be quite irritable to the skin as it causes discomfort and embarrassing physical marks. You can avoid shaving irritations by using different techniques and products to prevent razor burn, ingrown hairs and bumps.

A number of products are available in the market for men who want a daily, irritation free shave. The list is long. Products like special face washes, aftershave lotions and special creams are there to keep you free from any shaving irritation or issues. However, before you choose a lotion, cream or gel make sure that it suits your skin.

It is always best to consult your dermatologist before you choose a shaving product that will work with your skin type and prevent shaving irritation. You will need the prescription from your skin specialist to be able to buy certain products to clear up the skin. In addition, your dermatologist will help you understand your particular problem and show you some techniques that can prevent shaving irritations.

Many men find using aftershave to prevent any irritation after the shaving process. Most aftershaves use alcohol, which can dry out the skin and cause further irritation. If you are interested in using aftershaves, look for ones that contain natural ingredients like aloe vera and have a minimum alcohol content to prevent your skin from becoming dry and fragile. Recently, skin care companies have come out with lotions that are to be used instead of aftershave.

Women often experience a variety of problems that result from shaving. Depending on the woman herself, the problem may be razor burn, painful bumps, or ingrown hairs. All of these problems can be prevented using the proper techniques or products. For instance, razor burn occurs when the skin is shaved while dry or without any type of lubrication like soap, shaving cream, or shaving gel. In order to prevent razor burn, properly apply gels or creams that will allow you not only to avoid burning your skin, but also help prevent cuts or nicks. Some women choose to use soap, but it may dry out your skin and leave it vulnerable to further irritation.

Women must think of waxing in certain areas to prevent bumps or ingrown hairs, which are frequently around the bikini area that can be both painful and embarrassing. Waxing helps to remove the entire shaft of hair from the root and prevents tiny stubble from growing underneath the top layer of skin. However, if you prefer shaving, you must use a lotion containing a slight analgesic to prevent ingrown hairs.

Laser hair removal is another option for women and men who are sick of constantly shaving and experiencing painful irritation. It zaps the hair follicle and stops any hair production. However, not everyone can afford this expensive treatment. Plus, it takes quite a few visits to the clinic for the procedure to be effective.

The best solution for preventing shaving irritation lies in opting for a method and then sticking to it. It is also important to keep your skin healthy and hydrated for an optimum result.
