While the people who work within the field of Internet Marketing really like how much freedom and variety it offers it is still a fact that most of the people who do not work here are more likely to look at it with intensely critical eyes. There are plenty of rumors and misconceptions in existence about IM and even the whole internet. While individuals who work in the arena know how legitimate and fulfilling it can be at the same time, it poses a problem: do you want to be judged for it in your regular life? Lots of folks who make money online do so simply by using a pseudonym. They pick out fake names for themselves because they would like to keep their IM life separated from everything else they doespecially if they are only working in IM part time. Lots of new and part time online marketers are concerned that their friends and employers will find out that they are making money online. Of course, even if you dont care about that sort of thing, it still continues to be a question: should you use a pseudonym for your online business? There are many benefits involved with using pseudonyms. The biggest benefit, obviously, is being able to generate an identity separate from your personal life and making it easier to keep the two from running into them. People who perform in especially strict or demanding fields or who are surrounded by those who view the Internet as a sketchy place benefit from using a pseudonym because it protects them from judgment. IMers are also prone to use pseudonyms whenever they would like to sell products in different niches. This way they can create expert and niche identities for themselves that provide credibility to their businesses without having to worry about looking like a dabbler. You do not have to be worried about a person saying "but what about the conflicting market that you are also selling in?" because you'll be doing that selling under a different name? Sadly, however, among the larger reasons that people do IM business under a pseudonym is that they are trying to evade the responsibilities that come with running a business, like paying taxes. They appear to think that if they do not work under their legal names then they do not have to report any of the money that they earn to the IRS. Do not fall for this sort of logic. Even if you do business under another name the income will still be considered income and you'll be held responsible for it. Further, the IRS will uncover what you are doing and cheaters are always found out. It's definitely your choice whether you employ a pseudonym for your online activities. For a lot of people it is simply easier to have one name for their offline life and another for their on the internet life. Others, however, think that using only one name makes your life much easier because there are fewer things to remember.
