Should Team Building Include Challenges?

challenges may seem like trouble but what is beneficial about them (in any form) is their ability to get the staff to think together, at the same time, to tackle the task at hand. In short, this is just what you want the staff to learn about team building: that tasks can be tackled together and in such they can be highly successful.

Fight or Flight?

Since the dawn of man, one thing has been part of their makeup and that is the survival instinct of fight or flight. When an obstacle or a challenge presents itself, the individual has two decisions. They can stay and fight the challenge in the hope of overcoming it. Or, they can run from it, to get away. While the days of being chased by wild animals may be less common today, the fight or flight survival tactic takes place in the work environment.

Most organisation owners would say that they want their staff to stay and fight through the challenge so that they can reach the objective that is before them, which is often something beneficial for the organisation. On the other hand, it is quite common for the person who doesn't have a strong sense of confidence or may be lacking in support to run. This could delay a project, hold off a temperamental client or even cause a organisation to miss valuable opportunities. What is beneficial about the fight or flight survival instinct is that it may be improved and it may be enhanced by simply knowing what the choices are.

Team building can assist to improve this feeling. When you arrange and hold a team building event within your organisation, a few things can be accomplished, including the ability assist an own feel as if they can stay and fight. such as, challenges that are challenges can assist individuals to feel more like a team player. They can also teach the own how to get assist or how to utilise their other colleagues to assist them to solve the challenges they face. In some cases, effective team building can assist to improve the confidence of the staff as a whole.

As you can learn, challenge is a part of everyday life, especially in the work place. Even when things run well, there are challenges in some situations. The good news is that if you have a strong team ethos within your organisation, your team can and will succeed at working together to reach the common purpose of the staff.
