Some type of depression affects over 15 million Americans each and every year.
Medical attention will only be sought by about 4.5 million of these people. Historic stereotypes of the wild eyed insane hermit wandering the streets motivate people to try to cover up their problem.
But there's no good fairy to magic away severe depression. The condition gets worse and those afflicted will lose control.
Many Americans are too ashamed to admit they are afflicted. Severe Depression is no reflection on you as a human being.
You are not less of a person. Depression is a disease like any other disease. Medical aid is required.
When it becomes severe depression the symptoms become even worse. Everything associated with the illness becomes more intense.

There are no steps that can avoid this illness. However, it can be treated. It's vital to detect it early.
Diagnosis and treatment require an expert eye to notice the signs of depression. There are many different symptoms that are identified with depression.
A transparent one is that the sufferer will withdraw into themselves. They find it hard to deal with those around them.
Hopelessness, helplessness and even remorse consume them. They always seem angry and short tempered.
In some cases of severe depression people claim to hear evil spirits whispering in their ear.
Severe depression sufferers often turn to suicide to stop their ordeal. Only treatment and the support of family and friends can help.

A loss of self control is a horrible prospect.
Treatment is the only option. Typically, anti-depressants and 'talk therapy' are prescribed to treat depression.
Discussing the issues in a support group can also be effective. Once victims seek treatment they can be put on the road to a better life.
They can once again gain the self-control they once had. To reach that point one must first face their illness and pursue solutions.
