Taking Care of Premature Baby Clothes: Handling the Laundry

By: Luke Wildman Click author's name for more of his/her articles

When you are taking care of your preemie, you should focus on doing all household tasks accordingly. This means doing laundering or washing premature baby clothes with the proper care. Whilst you may need the usual items to clean the clothing, you need to exert additional efforts in the endeavour. Premature baby clothes are as special as your newborn child.
The first step to handle premature baby clothes is to look for the best detergents in town. Best detergents are those that are free from harsh chemicals. It is not all about keeping your baby’s clothes clean. It is also about looking for environment-friendly ways to do the laundry.

In order to keep your skin free from allergens and to make sure that their clothes remain tidy, practise the following steps in doing your laundry:
• Organise and segregate the clothes. When organising the clothes, you put dark-coloured ones together whilst you combine the rest of the clothing. This also means that you should separate your baby’s clothes from those of the rest of the members of the household.
• Laundry proper. When you are to launder the clothes, make sure that you also follow the instructions as indicated on the label. There are fabrics that should be hand-washed whilst there are also those that can be machine-washed. You better be cautious about these things if you want your babies to enjoy their premature baby clothes for a long time.
• Remove stains from the soiled clothing. Before removing any stain from the clothes, you should focus on the excess soil first. You may use some stain removal agents but be careful in making the choice. There are some agents that affect the colour of the dress as well. As much as possible simply rub the soil from the clothing or use warm water instead.
• Choose the right water temperature for laundering. If you want to preserve the colours of your premature baby clothes, you need to regulate the water temperature used whilst you do the laundry. Cool water is more favourable than hot water. Aside from the fact that it saves on energy, the clothes will always look good as new. This will also lessen the possibilities of shrinkage.
• Dry up the premature baby clothes depending on the instructions on the label of the clothes. There are clothes that you can simply hang to dry. Using the dryer will sometimes deform the clothes plus it also spends on energy consumption. Practicality dictates that you should dry up preemie clothes the natural way.
After laundering, you may opt to have the premature baby clothes ironed. However, you are encouraged to skip this routine and just focus on folding the clothes properly before storing them on your baby’s closet. In this step, you go back to organisation and segregation. Never keep premature baby clothes together with your clothes. Always see to it that there is that little spot in your house that is devoted for your baby’s belongings. Keep that area clean the way you keep preemie clothes tidy.
