The #1 Blood Oath That Every Network Marketer Should Take Before Contacting Anyone About Their Business Opportunity

The year 2010 is very near and there are still people out there who have a negative perception of network marketing - or at least they THINK they despise network marketing. I believe wholeheartedly that what they have come to despise is not the INDUSTRY of network marketing, but the EXPERIENCE they've had with a network marketer.

I can remember when I was "green" in the industry; I had this particular exchange with my own mother about the industry. Standing in her laundry room, she told me to "get away from me with that stuff" because I had began to give her pressure about not participating. Can you believe that? In ignorance I was straining my relationship with my mother about getting involved in a network marketing opportunity! When I reflect back to that time, my heart has that sinking feeling of regret still lingering. I was oblivious to the strain that I was putting on relationships because I was just plain ignorant to the damage this approach causes.

I can't make any excuses for what happened, but now I can provide a valid explanation. I was taught to pursue anybody and everybody for my business, no matter what I personally thought about that person. They could be unemployed, unmotivated, job-minded, cynical, skeptical, the list goes on. Everybody was a target and I had to fire at will. Believe it or not, there are still plenty of network marketers out here willing to risk everything including precious relationships just to make a buck in this industry.

So after many years of heartache and pain using the "mud throwing" approach, I swore to myself this would be my new motto: "NEVER talk to someone about your business without letting them read the label first." What does that mean? Health conscious people read labels on food items to make sure that it has what they are looking for, and to also make sure it doesn't contain things they are trying to avoid. That way neither the manufacturer nor the customer come into a relationship in ignorance or based on a twisted truth.

Today, rather than play the "prospecting lottery," I create marketing collateral that clearly displays what I'm about. I brand me, and I make sure they want what I have to offer BEFORE we speak about my business. There's no surprises, no hidden agendas, no smoke and mirrors. Using this approach, I automatically repel those who are unconvinced, cynical, or simply not interested in network marketing, while at the same time attracting the very people that I want to work with.

Network marketing deserves respect as a legitimate industry and I believe that begins with an overhaul on our approach as a collective people. This is the 21st century and we should make sure to operate according to how consumers take in information. Consumers are highly educated and smart enough to check things out, rather than take the advice of Uncle Bob on an opportunity while sitting in his living room.

Here's my main recommendation: work on getting a solid ranking in Google. Credibility is instantaneous when there is information about you in the marketplace. With this as your main asset, the exchange between my mother and me will not be something you'll have to experience. Agree with me starting today that you will no longer chase people, but instead get them to pursue you after reading your label.
