Northern England was once a part of the Mighty Roman empire. When Britain was invaded by the Romans they conquered almost up to the southern part of Scotland and even fixed their frontier there. After few years the Scottish frontier was changed to Northumberland frontier. Emperor Hadrian of Rome (AD 76-138) visited Britain in 122 A.D and it was after his order that the great wall was built. This Hadrian Wall will explain to you how big the roman empire actually was. Many parts of the wall are still intact and can be seen from the Hadrian's Wall Path or by a bicycle on National Cycle Route 72.
The City of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne will become a famous place for hikers because of its beautiful scenery and breath taking views which can be seen while hiking. If you continue till the Northumberland, the place will take you through such amazing and outstanding valleys and regions that you will want to plan walking holidays to the Hadrian Wall again and again. This is one of the most scenic places in England. A camera is a must have when you visit the Hadrian Wall. The cycling experience will be the one, that that will remain in the tourist’s mind forever.
‘The Roman Way’ cycle ride starts right from Ravenglass and goes up to South Shields. To travel through The National Cycle Route 72 you must be really prepared, as it has too many ups and downs and twists and turns. At Halfwhistle´s summit you will find the highest summit, which is of 200 meters and just before you touch Newbrough you will touch a height of 256 meters. You must plan your self guided walking holidays well in advance, be it hiking or cycling. This place is one of the biggest tourist attractions in England especially during the temperate season.
There are a number of castles forts, and turrets and many museums that you will come across while you are walking down the wall. For tourists who are interested in shopping this place is not going to let them down. There are a number of tourist hot shops and centers where you can either take a break and chill out or spend some money buying something as a souvenir from the Hadrian’s wall. The Hadrian wall or the Roman wall stands as an important place in World history and in 1987 this Wall was made the UNESCO World heritage place.
