The Magellan Maestro GPS Navigation System is a product line of mobile GPS units designed specifically with a user-friendly interface for consumers. The battery life, ease of use, touch-screen interface software and screen sizes make the system a straightforward, portable GPS solution for cars and trucks alike.

Screen size varies, depending upon the model, from 3.5 to 5 inches (measured diagonally). The line of models contain a preloaded internal map of all 50 U.S. states, Canada and Puerto Rico. (Maestro 4200 is does not include Alaska and Canada; Maestro 3100 and 4000 are preloaded with a map of the continental U.S. [lower 48 states].) For those of you going South of the Border, the Magellan Maestro 3220 and 4220 units additionally contain a preloaded map of Mexico.

Using GPS triangulation, the Magellan Maestro GPS Navigation System is accurate within 10 to 16 feet. The GPS units receive upwards of 20 satellite signals through an internal antenna (a multidirectional patch), and compile and display directions with Magellan's built-in software system, "OneTouch."

After turning on the system, the user will see the following five menu icons over a blue background: "Show Map," "Enter Address," "Points of Interest," a house, a tow truck and right-pointing arrow. Pressing the "Show Map" icon will render a map of the user's current position. The GPS unit takes into consideration the hour, presenting the map in bright colors during the day and dark colors during the evening. An address can be entered by zipcode or city name, and users can browse the up to 6 million (varies by model) "Points of Interest" (POI) by category (restaurants, gas stations, parks, etc.). Once programmed to an address, the unit can voice turn-by-turn directions.

The house icon can save the user's default (house) address, the tow truck icon leads to detailed information about the user's current location, and the right-pointing arrow leads to an additional menu selections.

All Magellan Maestro GPS Navigation System models include a battery life of at least three hours, a windshield mount, car adapter and USB Data Cable. Many models include Bluetooth-capability, traffic condition reports, voice command and AAA TourBook guide.
