The Power of Positive Expectation

I read this some years ago, and since then I've seen, read and heard many, many wonderful quotes, but for me this is by far the best, for if you were to take nothing else away from anything you learn about personal development, this idea would still propel you so far forward on your journey you wouldn't believe it.

But what does it mean? Well, we all have that internal chatter going on in our heads, like a running commentary on our lives from our own mind, and put very simply, it's either generally telling you you're OK and you can do stuff (technical term there:-), or it's telling you you're bad and you can't do stuff. And the quote above means that whichever style your chatter is, positive or negative, it will become a self fulfilling prophecy, so if you tell yourself you can do something you probably will, and if you tell yourself you can't do something, you probably (almost certainly in fact) won't.

So which flavour chatter do you have? Personally mines the good stuff, I'm my own biggest fan, I encourage myself, praise myself, and I never give others permission to disrespect me. I'm amazing. But the thing is so are you, the difference is just that I know it, not in a conceited way, I just know what makes me unique and what my unique gifts are.

Here's an example of getting a promotion. Ask yourself this, what have you been telling yourself about that promotion? I'm going to guess it's been going something like this, "Why can't I get that promotion, he's never going to give it to me, he just wants me to stay here like his own personal slave, he knows I deserve it, why can't I get it?"

Can you guess why you haven't got it? Because YOU'VE been telling YOURSELF over and over again that you're not going to get it. Do yourself a favour, change the channel. If you don't expect to get it what kind of vibe are you giving off to your boss? I'll tell you, "don't give me that promotion!"

In order to move your life forward you first of all have to remove the 'wheel clamps' you yourself have secured to the 'wheels' of your life. You put them there through consistently telling yourself you weren't good enough, or strong enough, or popular enough, or young enough etc. You're on a journey, but you're not going to start moving until you remove those locks.

I want you to find a positive affirmation that sounds right for you, here are some examples, but I'm sure you can do even better;

· The world is good and everyone is on my side

· All good things are coming to me today

· I deserve, expect and receive the love and respect of other people

· Only good things happen to me

I'm going to get the promotion I know I deserve

I'm strong and powerful

I'm an inspiration to everyone I meet

Whichever one(s) you choose you need to write them out 10 times in the morning and 10 times just before you go to bed, and mentally/verbally repeat them when you can (driving to work, in the shower, having lunch etc.) The more you think/say/write them down the more your brain is going to set you up for success, not failure.

If you find yourself telling yourself you can't do something, or you're too old/fat/ugly/stupid pull yourself up sharp! Replace it with a positive thought immediately, repeat it 10 times if you have to but don't put up with any nonsense from yourself.

This is a favourite affirmation of mine, I use it often throughout the day, I came across it in Charles F. Hannel's 'Master Key System' , I've adapted it a bit;

"I am whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious, healthy, wealthy, safe and happy".

What more could you want?
