Tips to Prevent Sleep Paralysis

During sleep paralysis, you remain half awake and half asleep. You find that you cannot move. Getting panicky only worsens the situation. If you panic, you might hallucinate that there is something evil in the room. You might see grotesque figures or you might imagine that something is trying to kill you. This is pure hallucination, created by a terrified mind. Unfortunately, it could drive many people from having delightful lucid dreaming experiences.

Try to be in a relaxed mood when you go to sleep. You could try and channel out your stress and frustrations through exercise. Ultimately when you do fall asleep the mind must be free. Smoking, drinking alcohol and caffeine will interfere with your normal sleep pattern. If you want to prevent sleep paralysis then avoid taking these substances at night or before you sleep. There are certain things and behaviors that are known to bring about episodes of this condition and by avoiding these things then you won't experience any attacks. Since it happens when the brain suddenly awakes during REM the idea is to avoid things that will interfere with your sleep pattern. So you might consider this to be a sleep paralysis cure.

Alcohol, tobacco and caffeine are known stimulants that will affect your sleep. Avoid taking them just before you got to sleep. When you go to sleep try and be relaxed, being tense and stressful will likely trigger the paralysis. Not keeping a regular sleeping timetable is also another of the known sleep paralysis causes. Try and maintain constant times for waking up and going to sleep.

So is there anything that can be done about it? Of course there are many causes to this and the solutions are just as many too. The underlying theory though is avoiding anything that will disrupt your normal sleep. Things that send signals to the brain and require it to become active. Things like light, sound or even going to sleep before emptying your bladder or bowels can bring about an episode.

Sleep paralysis is also coupled with hallucinations during sleeping. A person tends to see images or hear sounds before going to sleep or after waking up. He/she can also feel someone exerting heavy weight on their chest or feeling someone's presence in their room, etc. This situation can be really frightening at times for the people who experience it. They almost feel choked and find it hard to move or even open their eyes. It is better to consult a good doctor if you feel that the condition getting worse.

There are a number of things that are known to disrupt a normal sleep pattern, such as light and sound. Not keeping to a regular sleep schedule is another. Sleep paralysis treatment looks at all the factors involved and is aimed at you avoiding them. Give yourself time to acquaint yourself fully with this condition. Low levels of melatonin may also lead to the paralysis. The medical condition known as narcolepsy may also trigger an episode of sleep paralysis. Other factors used in conjunction with one another may also make the likelihood of experiencing sleep paralysis greater and these include sleeping in certain positions, irregular sleep schedules, and stress and life changes.
