You can sign up to receive emails from most of your favorite stores, clubs, and other social organizations. Email is a great way to stay informed and keep in touch.

2. Read news articles. There are endless amounts of news outlets on the Internet. Your local newspaper most likely has a website where you can get the latest local news. Many popular search engines, like Google, MSN, and Yahoo has new sections that offer stories from all over the world and in every genre, like politics and sports. In a few clicks, you can stay informed about the world around you.

3. Research information. Ever lost a phone number? Want to know how many holidays are in the month of March? The Internet offers countless educational resources that you can access quickly and get the information you need. Most of these questions can be answered by a simple web search on Google.com, Bing.com, or Yahoo.com. If you want to look up a word, go to Dictionary.com. If you want an encyclopedia reference, check out Wikipedia.com. All of these websites work great on dial-up.

4. Plan a party. Want to throw a birthday party or wedding reception? Some research with your dial-up Internet will help you with ideas, find bargains for caterers and decorations, and help you make important decisions, like budgeting and following special traditions.

6. Expand your cooking skills. It's never too late to learn something new! The Internet has many websites that have recipes and great cooking advice. You can also buy new cooking supplies online or research brands or functions of cooking utensils.

7. Get in touch with your soul. Many interesting religious groups and religious information is available online. You can find websites that offer spiritual insight and learn more about different religions. You may discover some interesting traditions that are based on religious practices. There is also advice for living a balanced life and maintaining your body and soul.

8. Learn a new hobby. You can order books, kits, and products to improve or learn a new hobby or skill. Find classes in your area for art, dancing, or crafts. You may be surprised how easy it is to learn something new, especially with help from Internet resources.

9. Order food. Ever feel like not making dinner but you don't want to leave the house? Just get online to your favorite pizza restaurant and place your order online! It's very simple, and only takes a few steps, so it will be easy on dial-up.

10. Send a electronic greeting card. Is someone not feeling well? Having you been thinking about a friend or loved one recently? Cousin's birthday coming up? You can find hundreds of entertaining and heartwarming e-cards online. They make take some time to load on dial-up, but they aren't as bulky as videos, so it is still possible.
