By: Mark Farrell Click author's name for more of his/her articles

The door to door double glazing salesman fortunately for the industry isnt as popular now a days since the introduction of the internet and even more intense competition. The reason being is that the door to door salesman has always had a bad reputation for being a rip off merchant. Im sure in a lot of cases this is true and I also agree that they can be really really pushy. At the end of the day they are the same as everybody else just trying to earn a living. Im sure there are honest and trustworthy Cheap Double Glazing Salesman out there but unfortunately they are over shadowed by the hundreds that are out for blood.

This article details the top three tactics that are adopted by the glazing salesman that would approach you initially on your front door. These tactics can also be adopted over the telephone im sure and are also common in many other industries. Take a look so you know what to look out for when being pitched to. This will enable you to get the best possible deal when purchasing your Cheap Double Glazing.

1. Sweeping

This tactic is quite simple yet very effective and relies on the sales person not closing the deal (i.e making a sale.) The way it works is the customer is approached and before they can close the door on the salesman they are offered a ridiculously high price. Once the salesman has your interested he or she will then proceed to negotiate for an hour or so (if he can) leaving the price way to high. The customer will then say something along the lines of Ill come back to you or ill ask my husband having no intention of doing so and the salesman leaves.

A few days later the customer is then contacted by the sales manager who is enquiring about the door to door salesman his appearance, his manner and general performance. You as the customer believe that he is taking the time to check up on his sales force which in turn gives the company more credit with the customer. In fact this is all part of the plan and the sales manager will then offer you the real price under the description of thank you for giving me your time and as a thank you I can offer you the same deal at the following price.

Bingo you are sold.

2. Discounts, Discounts and More Discounts

In such a competitive industry the price for glazing is at its all time low so there are lots and lots of discounts to be had. Your door to door salesman will have a huge library of reasons to offer you discounts. You can listen to them all and we advise only to take them up on the offer if you are 100% satisfied with the cost. An example on the reasons for discounts may include:

"Our Salesman couldnt make it today so I as the sales manager am doing his rounds. What this means to you is that you wont be paying his commission so I can offer you a great deal"

"If you let us put a sign up outside your house advertising our services we can offer you a great discount" I believe that all companies would put a sign up outside anyway, so dont be fooled by this reason for a discount.

3. First Call Discount

The sales person will offer you a discount that must be acted upon immediately as it is only available for this limited period only especially as he has made the effort to come to you. You would think this is a ridiculous reason but you would be surprised at the number of people who fall for such a tactic. It works by putting pressure on the customer to make an instant decision.

As you are buying in such a competitive market I would recommend sleeping on all decisions safe in the knowledge that if you did decide you wanted the product the discount (even if it is fictitious) would still be there the next day and the day after that and the day after that. I personally would not deal with a company who tries to put pressure on you to make a sale. If their product is that good it should sell itself.

There are hundreds more tactics employed by door to door double glazing sales people but the three that have just been described are probably the most common. Now that you are aware of these techniques you are better placed to deal with them should you be approached allowing you to get the best possible deal on your Cheap Double Glazing.
