Avandia and Actos, both type 2 diabetes drugs, have recently made news headlines again for declining sales and status because of serious risks associated with consumption of the drugs.

According to the article, Avandia will see a huge decrease in sales by 2011 because of severe side effects that continue to be investigated.

What Does Avandia Treat?

Part of the glitzaone drug class, Avandia (rosiglitazone maleate) is an anti-diabetic treatment. The type 2 diabetes drug was released from GlaxoSmithKline in mid-1999 and has since been prescribed to millions of diabetic patients. Diabetics must be sure to avoid going into diabetic shock, which can be fatal and Avandia works to control natural levels of insulin to avoid this.

The dangers of Avandia began to be reported by 2007. The New England Journal of Medicine published a study in which the drug was linked to heart damage among Avandia consumers.

An additional study conducted by Swiss researchers found that patients consuming the diabetic drug were more likely to suffer from bone fractures and breaks because of accelerated osteoporosis that was developing among patients and caused directly from the drug.

Avandia Risks

According to a clinical trial of the drug in which 9,900 patients were tested, the drug had an array of debilitating and uncomfortable side effects including:

* upper respiratory tract infection

* injury

* headache

* back pain

* hyperglycemia

* fatigue

* sinusitis

* diarrhea

* hypoglycemia

* onset or exacerbation of congestive heart failure

Individuals who have suffered from the severe risks of Avandia are not only encouraged to locate a medical professional immediately to assess the drug's risks, but to also consult an attorney who can provide insightful details as to building an Avandia case.

Both major side effects, heart failure and osteoporosis, are both irreversible side effects caused by the drug. Unfortunately, both of these conditions are extremely costly and can lead to a fortune in medical bills during a lifetime.

An attorney who is experienced with the drug Avandia can potentially offer assistance in developing a pharmaceutical case for the damaging effects of the drug.
