Uncover the Dangers of Parabens

By: R Kalpana Click author's name for more of his/her articles

This scared me to death. We are using chemicals in facial creams that are linked to breast cancer.

The danger of parabens are becoming more widely known. There have been several studies conducted lately that state parabens are a carcinogen and carcinogens cause cancer.

The only thing parabens are used for are preservatives. They have absolutely no benefit as a wrinkle reducer.

The skin care products we purchase today are loaded with chemicals that are synthetic in nature. There have been many studies suggesting that chemicals such as parabens can interfere with hormone secretion in the blood stream.

With the many problems being caused today by chemicals, it stands to reason that we need to be careful of the products we use on our skin. The majority of these products do not do what they are intended to do anyway.

Many people are allergic to parabens and they cause a variety of allergic reactions. Ranging from mild to more serious skin irritations to instances of cancer that may be related to using products with parabens, the best thing to do is not to use them.

One study recently showed the main dangers of parabens to humans. The research also addressed the possibility that parabens were responsible for the rising incidence of breast cancer in women and the low sperm counts in men.

During a study of breast tumors scientist found minute particles of parabens in the tissue. They believe this is the direct result of using deodorant that contained parabens.

Because parabens can imitate estrogen, they interfere with natural processes in the body. Are parabens bad? All evidence so far points to the fact that parabens do present a health risk.

Especially people with sensitive skin should avoid using products containing parabens. The risk of developing an allergy to these chemicals are more likely for people already prone to allergies.

They have not been prohibited from use as of yet, but many feel they should be taken off the market. The evidence gathered to this point strongly suggests that parabens should be avoided.

I would rather be safe than sorry. There are products on the market today that advertise as being paraben-free so if you are concerned with this particular chemical, look for these products.

One thing you need to look at while searching for skin care products is the label. Become a label reader so you will know you are getting when you purchase an item.

Manufacturers are required to list the ingredients contained in consumer products because of allergic reactions among other things. You will find using all natural ingredients is far better for your skin anyway.

So we ask - are parabens bad? While no one is saying there is 100% fool-proof evidence showing that parabens are causing certain disease and illness, there is evidence.

Finding the right amount of evidence to point to any one particular instance of cancer related illness has not been found yet. What is known is conclusive evidence does exist that says parabens are not considered to be a healthy ingredient when it comes to skin care products.

Some food for thought - the dangers of parabens may not be apparent to everyone at the same level. However, the evidence gathered so far strongly points to the presence of enough reason not to use parabens.
