Using Kettlebells While Exercising

By: Carla Michelle Click author's name for more of his/her articles

Kettlebells were first used 200 years ago. They look like an ancient cannonball but with the addition ofa handle. In fact the first ones maybe have been made out of cannon balls! To understand them better, you need to know a bit about them. Don't be fooled: not just about any old trainer can deliver adequate training with them. Despite holding numerous certifications and knowledge about physiology, I don't pretend to teach Bikram Yoga!. The Russian Kettlebell is an extreme hand-held gym equipment and like anything else, if used incorrectly, you can hurt yourself. But do not be afraid of its ominous demeanour, because it can deliver more for you in less time than a n ordinary routine with more versatility than many exercise equipment combined! It will find your weak spots and make you accountable!
Kettlebells are better than calisthenics, because while you have full access to your body anytime, you're bounded by the load you can place on your body.
Kettlebells are even better than dumbbells because, apart from challenging your stabilization (whether worked unilaterally or bilaterally), a dumbbell's grip offers limitations for certain movements that the kettlebell's handle makes easier (such as pistol squats or front squats, with the kettlebell comfortably racked up, or parallel versus diagonal grip for presses or snatches). Swung quickly, they provide tremendous power and cardio, for sustained strength and endurance.
The RKC (Russian Kettlebell Challenge) system is the only training school out there, that will properly teach you extreme deceleration, a skill often overlooked in sports like football or basketball where incessant stop-n-go, sudden stops and changes in direction occur. No other tool like the Russian Kettlebell will improve your ability for hip thrusts for activities that include kicking, jumping etc.
The Kettlebell is designed to maximizes shoulder power and agility, develops your grip, boost wrist strength and thickness and develop huge forearms. The kettlebell is great for the development of hand-eye coordination skills by passing it from hand to hand. I often feel that it is"the closest thing to fighting without throwing a punch". The resilience you'll build in your latissimus dorsi, as well as the rest of your body will turn your body into stone, yet with the flexibility and speed of a panther, working in non-linear planes of motion, a component non-existent with exercise equipment. And ladies, be not afraid and check out Andrea Ducane's page, female Master RKC, and see how fantastic she looks!
What does a kettlebell routine consist of? Simple: presses and pulls.
The swing, the clean, the military press, the squat, the snatch and the get-up contain all the movements ever needed in life, sports and all-encompassing fitness. Stick to the basics these and you'll be athletic for life!
And what if need variety? Work for time instead of working for reps.
