Western Apparel has an Enduring Appeal

Most of us watched a lot of television when we were growing up. Many of us dreamed of being a doctor, or an astronaut, or a soldier. Some of us even dreamed of being an American Indian, but almost everyone dreams of being a cowboy or a cowgirl at one time or another. Back in the early 1980s the movie "Urban Cowboy" brought western apparel to a new level of popularity. It seemed like at every corner, store windows were filled with cowboy boots, hats, shirts, chaps, and even saddles and tack.

To many people, being a cowboy is a way of life. Even home decor has taken on the Cowboy/Western theme. Leather couches, plaid blankets fashioned after saddle blankets, antler chandeliers, and much more are commonly available to give your living room that Western appeal. Western style furniture is often made of reclaimed teak, and may be found in the form of living room, dining room, bedroom, and even patio furniture.

If you are a true cowboy at heart, or just love the style, you can fill your home with lots of Western trinkets, gadgets, and accessories, too. Many vacation and weekend cabins in mountainous areas, such as the Smokies, the Sierra Nevadas and the Rockies use Western decor to give that certain rustic getaway feel to the properties. Lofts, stone fireplaces, broad wood beams and open rafters make up the structure, while bulky wooden furniture with rich colors such as reds, golds and greens often make up the plaid or patterned fabrics that cover the cushions and window treatments to add warmth and color. Large comfy pillows and throws, lanterns, and woodcarvings add character and charm.

Western apparel remains eternally popular because of its practicality and the functionality of the style and materials used. Western apparel is rugged and durable, and it simply looks really good when you're wearing it! Western riding show apparel is more expensive than most other types of Western apparel, because it is more specific and enhances the showmanship and routines a horse and rider are performing.

Have you ever looked at all the detail on a good pair of cowboy boots? It's truly amazing what artisans can do with leather! Cowboy boots come in many different styles and are made by several top-notch manufacturers for people of all walks of life. Presidents and movie stars have worn cowboy boots! They are comfortable, durable, stylish and designed with safety and protection in mind.

Speaking of detail, when was the last time you looked at a saddle? Saddles have to be strong, durable, stable, and be comfortable for the rider as well as the horse. There are two types of saddles (Western and English) but the two do not intermix when it comes to riding styles. Each has its own features and options, so it's possible to get a saddle for your equine companion with the exact features you are looking for.

Whether you're a true cowboy or a weekend wannabe, cowboy boots and Western apparel can easily have a place in your life. And for riders and ranchers, boots hats, chaps, saddles and tack are household words.
