For many years little has been done to change the technology of the way headlights work. Relying on the simple tungsten method that was invented not long after the car itself was established most car companies and body part suppliers haven't seen fit to change the way they work. As demand for new innovations have gone up over the years and many new parts and add-ons came with that demand it was only a matter of time before a better way of lighting the road came along. Xenon provided this change when they invented the new Xenon HID headlights. Xenon HID headlights improve on the old method of lighting the road by removing the filament that the tungsten method relies on. Without this method Xenon lights run on the arc of energy that runs between two pieces of tungsten producing light. Xenon HID headlights are better because they're capable of providing more light with more efficient energy levels. How does this work? Xenon lights save energy by not relying on producing heat to light the way. The original tungsten method requires the energy to gather and build in a filament that then radiates the heat out of the light. This means that much of the energy consumed in running older lights is actually waste energy, heat that radiates out and doesn't really serve a function in the lighting process. Xenon HID headlights or high intensity discharge lights, produce much more light than these older lights and therefore improve your ability to see while driving at night or in inclement weather conditions. As well as the removal of the old filament these new Xenon lights added a gas that contains metal salts. These salts dissolve and turn into plasma when the energy arc has produced enough power. Xenon HID headlights require a short “warming up” period in order to reach their full brightness, this is so that the salts can fully dissolve and become plasma, the major source of this brighter light. Xenon lights are also known for their extended lifetime. Why? Unlike regular headlights Xenon lights don’t have a filament inside that burns out after a certain amount of use. This means that adding these lights to your car is also energy efficient and more likely to reduce the amount of maintenance required to run it safely. When these Xenon lights were first produced they weren't as well-established as regular lights and therefore met some skepticism from car owners. Now they're one of the hottest selling car part modifications on the market. Xenon HID headlights proved themselves to buyers and major car manufacturers by truly improving visibility for nighttime driving and bad weather conditions. Proving their durability and long life added appreciation for the lights and only increased their purchase and use more. There are already cars being produced with the technology factory installed before release. With time Xenon lights may replace the older tungsten and filament method we know so well, offering us a better source of light and more efficient energy use for our cars.
