What To Expect After Your Breast Lift Surgery

A breast lift surgery can alleviate drooping, sagging breasts. But before you opt for the procedure, you should learn all you can about the surgery and what to expect during your recovery time. While this article is by no means complete, it will cover several of the more important aspects of breast lift surgery.

Perhaps the most important aspect of breast lift surgery is having realistic expectations. While the surgery itself will certainly improve your breast's appearance to a more youthful shape, the surgery will not actually make you younger! This might sound like a silly expectation, but subconsciously many women make the mistake of attributing a reduction in age with a successful breast lift. Obviously, this is not the case nor will it ever be.

To fully understand the recovery process as well as what you can expect after surgery, the only source of information you should trust is the direct advice given to you from a licensed, board certified plastic surgeon. Only a surgeon can advise you on what you can realistically expect from plastic surgery!

Every surgery will take considerable time to recover from; a breast lift is no different in this respect. Excessive scarring, infections, and surgery complications are very real possibilities and can realistically happen to any woman undergoing the surgery. Following your surgeon's recovery advice is perhaps the most important aspect of post-surgery recovery.

Initially following a breast lift surgery, you will be required to wear a compression bra. This bra will need to be worn twenty four hours a day. In some cases, your surgeon will advise against you taking a shower for at least several days after surgery.

Lifting your arms above shoulder level is also a major no-no. Physical activity is to be generally avoided after any breast enhancement procedure. Any unnecessary movement can adversely affect the healing process, especially within the first few weeks following surgery.

Your compression bra will certainly help with keeping your breasts tight against your body. With that in mind, always wear it! You should only switch to a normal bra after your surgeon gives you permission to do so.

An obvious detriment to the healing process is any kind of smoking! Why? Because smoking hinders blood flow, and that will severely restrict your body's ability to heal itself. If you are a smoker, you will need to stop smoking several months prior to your surgery and for at least a few months after surgery. Ideally, you should quit altogether! If you are an excessive smoker, your surgeon may not perform the surgery at all because your body's healing process will be severely hampered and excessive scarring could occur.

Optimal recovery is about common sense. Can you remember to do the following: stop smoking, drink plenty of water, rest, don't lift your arms above shoulder level, and listen to the advice of your surgeon. Can you follow those directions? If so, you should have a speedy recovery from your breast lift procedure.

It is not the intention of this article to provide you with medical advice or recommendations - you should only consult a licensed physician when seeking health-related advice.
