Are you considering bankruptcy over your unsecured debt? More and more people are looking to bankruptcy to help them get out of their debt. And while this is not always an easy decision to make many people feel it is their only choice. What´s more, with the economy and the job market being as bad as it is today the number of people in financial distress is only getting worse. However, what is important for these people to know is that bankruptcy does not have to be their only choice. For instance, they may find that consumer credit counseling is a better way to go.

Imagine owing thousands upon thousands of dollars to the credit card companies because of debt you racked up while you were younger and had a huge income. This is actually what happens to many people each year. Either they had extremely good income and felt they were safe using credit but lost their income later on or they were the type that simply got caught up in the credit addiction that can sometimes happen. But regardless of why you find yourself with all this debt and unable to pay for it you may find that bankruptcy may not be your only answer. In fact, you may want to look into a good consumer credit counseling service first.

When you file for bankruptcy you will find that it is not always as sweet a pot as you imagine. First of all, you will find that bankruptcy can become extremely expensive. Not only are there high court fees but also lawyers fees. And most people that consider bankruptcy are doing so because they have no money to spare in the first place. With consumer credit counseling you will find that the small monthly fees are a much more affordable way to go. Secondly, not only is bankruptcy expensive but also very hard on your future as well.

While it is never a good idea to have tons of credit cards or other unsecured loans maxed out on their limits there are cases where you will need such help. For instance, imagine that you need to buy a used car in the future to get to work or you find yourself in need of a loan to fix your home. If you were to file bankruptcy today then these loans will more than likely not be available to you later. In fact, most lenders will run as far and as fast from you as they can once they see this on your consumer credit report.

So while bankruptcy is expensive and bad for your future loan needs, consumer counseling is neither. Instead of making you pay for your mistakes what these counseling services do for you is help dig your way out of them. And while bankruptcy may seem the quickest and easiest it really is not in the long run. In fact, a good consumer credit counseling service will help you not only pay off your debt but clean up your credit report as well. Just imagine having a clean record.
