The old saying that "practice makes perfect" may be more apt to the sport of golf than any other pastime. But, unless you are retired or independently wealthy, your day is most likely filled with job and home requirements. So when you do have free time for some golf, you'd probably prefer to be playing a round instead of practicing. Golf practice drills help you make the most of your practice time. By focusing on specific parts of your golf game and undertaking your practice, you'll be able to accomplish more in your practice periods and be respected by other golfers when you start playing for real.

Think about how many chances you get to play each golf shot when you're on the course? Usually, it's just one. Golf practice drills allow you to set up your problem shots repetitiously. Then not only will you be able to improve things like accuracy and distance control, because you will also gain confidence. Increased self-assurance could have a bigger impact on your game than any golf swing tip or new putting method.

Would you like to significantly develop your putting? Have a go at this drill. Use twenty golf balls and lay them out in a plus sign or cross with the hole in the middle. This will give you four lines of 5 balls each. Now, putt each golf ball into the cup. You can either clear a full line at a time or putt in the four nearest balls, the four second nearest and proceed similarly. You may add a little variety and make this golf practice drill more valuable, by compelling yourself to start all over any time you fail to sink a putt. Through emphasizing your misses, you can pile on the pressure, especially after you have putted in 15 or 16 straight. Should you want to fine tune your distance control, and really become aware of what a well executed putt actually is, this is the practice drill for you.

Some golfers try hard to keep a triangle shape with their shoulders and arms when they are putting. Try this golf practice drill to enhance your putting form. Pick up one of the other golf clubs and place it under your arms with the shaft across your chest. Putt the golf ball without dropping the club. Controlling an accurate and winning putting stroke, will be a lot easier, if you include this golf practice drill in your regular routine.

Now that your putting is on the way to perfection, your golf swing may need attention. Proper body rotation is a vital element of the golf swing. This golf practice drill trains you in the correct body rotation. Take a club and hold it behind your head with the shaft over your shoulders. Stand as if you are about to tee off. Remain focussed as this is a drill to get your posture right. Now, rotate your upper body back until the shaft of the club is aimed towards the ground. Now finish the drill as you rotate the waist. Imagine that you are swinging through the ball. Practice this rotating procedure a few times throughout your practice session. It should help your body recognize the correct feeling of rotating your upper body.

It should now be obvious that the quickest way to lower your golf score is to put together a practice schedule using widely acclaimed golf practice drills. Efficient practice like this will help you achieve more in whatever practice time you have available.
