The number of people choosing artificial trees over the real thing is rising. There are plenty of good reasons for doing so, including realistic appearance, ease of upkeep, and low prices. If you're thinking about purchasing an artificial tree for the upcoming holiday season, then this article will reinforce your decision.

The artificial Christmas tree has changed a lot through the years. Artificial trees have come a long way from their humble beginnings as a hodgepodge of metal and dyed feathers, with modern artificial trees being almost undetectable from the real thing. Currently, artificial Christmas trees come in a vast array of tree types, diverse colors, and different heights. Whether it is a fir or a pine, with sturdy branches and soft needles, your artificial tree will have an appearance and touch similar to a real tree.

You should keep the cost of an artificial tree in mind when you go tree shopping. Real trees can be expensive, costing between $40 to $150 or more each year, depending on the type of tree and location of purchase. The typical price range for artificial trees is $100 to $1000. Unlike fresh-cut trees that can only be used once, artificial trees can be used over and over again. These trees can last a decade or more, so the cost per year is lower than a real tree.

If you don't like the upkeep associated with a real tree, then an artificial tree is for you. Unlike the time consuming process of maintaining a tree that has been freshly cut down, an artificial tree won't shed pine needles or require any water at all. There's also no need to mess with Christmas tree lights, since many artificial trees have pre-installed lights.

Choosing an artificial Christmas tree rather than a real tree also lets you assemble the tree and display it for as long as you desire. Its beauty will not degrade over time. Fresh trees only stay looking nice for a few weeks, if you're lucky. Artificial trees come in a large variety of shapes and sizes to fit the needs of almost any room. You will have no problem with the assembly of these trees. One drawback of an artificial tree is that it doesn't smell like a real tree, so try using a scented candle or plug in room freshener to achieve the desired holiday fragrance.

Real trees can also be a fire hazard. Even if you're really diligent about watering your tree, the needles slowly dry out, creating a fire hazard. Most artificial trees are constructed using flame-retardant materials and use UL lights that consume little energy. All major retailers sell trees that meet these requirements.

Now that you know some of the benefits of choosing an artificial tree, making the decision should be much easier. Artificial Christmas trees are clearly better, and we're sure you'll enjoy your artificial tree for years to come.
