Wireless Burgler Alarms: The Plusses

By: Fred Jackson Click author's name for more of his/her articles

The air outside is pure and there is a light breeze. The sunlight is bright and clean, while the air is crisp. Last night, as storm blew through and now a young lady sits in front of me. Her straight hair is dark, and flows past her shoulders, and her eyelashes follow her sleepy blue eyes as they gaze over her computer. She is a contradiction of her own fate, and as of yet unreconciled difference between what is, and what might have been.

Several months prior, Ellen Frisk decided to start looking for protection. There was a rash of break-ins, as well as a fairly violent incident that took place in her neighborhood which was increasing her uneasiness. The police were more active in the area, but the crime seemed persistent.

Since her complex wouldn't allow her to have a dog, that became a non-option. A dog large enough to defend her apartment probably would be cramped up in an apartment of that size, so it was probably for the best. Not knowing exactly where to begin, she began researching alarm systems.

Ademco Alarm Systems, or wired alarms. Both choices have a lot to offer. Each type has similar features and capabilities, but unfortunately the wired alarm systems were more difficult to install. She wasn't willing to pay someone to run wires through her walls for a place she was only renting. It might have been possible to just affix the wires to the walls, but she decided that in the end it would be too messy. She decided to go with wireless burglar alarms.

The only other thing to consider now is which brand to get. Among those available is Ademco Lynx, Napco Security Systems, and DSC Alarm Systems. It wasn't an easy choice. DSC has "home monitoring" services, a fire alarm, and also a "panic button" that can get you into your front door quickly. Ademco is the other choice. The Vista 15P kit has the option of their "AlarmNet" communicator, which communicates alarm monitoring information wirelessly over the internet, which ensures proper operation even when the telephone lines are cut. The biggest selling point of the Napco alarm system was it's "IQ Profiler" feature which helps eliminate false positives. Ellen owns a cat. Knowing the difference between her cat and an intruder made the alarm system a lot more attractive to her.

A few days back, Ellen had her mouth taped with duct tape by someone who had broken into her home while she slept at night. Now awake, she frantically grasped for anything to help defend her from the attack. He restrained her by her arms, but she managed to break free by kicking him. She ran out, pulling the tape off. She heard her cat screech as the intruder tripped over him. He overpowered her, and the rest was a blur.

Fortunately none of it happened though. The reason is because before he ever got inside the apartment, I was watching over her and he new that. Watching over her furniture, her possessions, and even her cat, and now she sits in front of me on this beautiful morning quietly catching up on her email.
