  • 5 Unique Ways To Market Your Home Business  By : Matt Lloyd
There are an infinite number of ways that you can promote your Home Business. The following are just a few.

    PPC

When starting out, a good place to begin is with Pay Per Click, or PPC for short. PPC is fairly self explanatory. Basically, you are charged every time someone clicks your link and sees your site. But it's not about how many clicks you get... instead, it's all about who clicks your link.
Since you might be paying up to $3 every time someone clicks your link, it's important to make sure that only people who are looking for what you are selling are doing the clicking.
The best way that you can control who gets to see your link is through using the search engines. Take Google for example. You can open your own free marketing account with Google (known as Adwords), select the keyword searches that you want to trigger your ads, and get immediate results.
It's better to select long tail keywords, meaning keywords that are really phrases with less competition than the obvious choices. As an example, you'll pay much less per click if you bid on the phrase 'home business alternatives' than just the phrase 'home business.' The trade- off is that you won't get as much traffic, as more people will tend to search for the latter.
It's also best to make use of the less well know search engines, like MSN and Yahoo. You might not get as much traffic as you'll get with Google, but you'll get much cheaper clicks.

    Submitting Articles

Writing articles for most home business owners is a waste of time. It takes too much time to write each article, they don't write well, and as a result hardly anyone makes it to the bottom of the page to click on their link.
Well that's the way things used to be. Now, we have some pretty amazing tools at our fingertips, that can help you effortlessly produce hundreds of articles, which are totally unique. It's important that when you are submitting your articles to all of the different article directories out there (and there are hundreds) that you try to make each unique. Otherwise, Google will notice and may penalize you for distributing the exact same content. The tool to use is called an article spinner. Just do a Google search on the term and you'll be able to find a free one quite easily.
Article writing isn't just about getting people to visit your website. It also serves another purpose; getting lots of back- links out there, which will help to get your site ranked high (this is what Search Engine Optimization, or SEO is all about).

    Making Videos

Making videos to promote your business is where it's headed. Let's face it; the average Australian watches well over 2 hours of TV each day, and so we have become a nation of visually respondent learners. A lot more people watch TV than read; it requires less effort, and after a long day of work it's more appealing for most people.
Websites like YouTube and MetaCafe have really boomed because of this tendency to watch. And many of the top internet marketers in the world make use of videos in their product launches.

You've got to remember that people buy from those they know, like and trust. So if someone can see what you look like in person, it adds a lot more credibility than if you are just writing text.
When filming videos of yourself, try not to be too much of a perfectionist. It's OK if they're not perfect, because chances are neither are your prospects, and people will mostly buy from others they perceive to be like them. Also, don't try to be someone you're not. Occasionally, I see home business owners wearing suits in their home office. It can get a little silly at times, since a big part of working from home is to get away from all that)

But the other extreme can also be dangerous. I recently saw a video of a lady promoting her home business while dancing around in her pyjamas. It didn't exactly make me want to get involved. So try to strike a balance between the two.

    Mail Drops

Doing mail drops can be a very effective strategy, especially since many marketers have fled the scene to promote their business on the net, and left the mail industry a lot less competitive.
But if you're going to use this strategy, there are a few things you should know. Firstly, walking around dropping free reports in peoples' mail boxes is not going to work. To do a mail drop, you should aim to distribute a minimum of 600 mailings, which will take you a long time to distribute on foot...perhaps too long to make it worthwhile. Next, you need to know how to write decent copy, or have someone else do it for you. Making a post card with the headline "Home Business Opportunity" probably won't motivate someone to look further. And most importantly, you should always target those who you want to receive your offer, rather than mailing anyone.
You can get a list of such people organizations like DSA data. But before you even think about spending money with this medium, be sure to do some testing. If your offer isn't working online, it's unlikely to get results when done through mail.

    Social Marketing

This is is what the new web, web 2.0 is all about. Sites like Twitter and Facebook etc. that rely on user input have become giants in a remarkably short time, and it's because they involve the user on a whole new level. The great thing about these sites is that they allow you to get a fan club very rapidly ... Take Twitter for example. If you want to get an audience who are interested in the home business industry, simply make friends with the leaders in the home business industry. Chances are, they have literally thousands of followers who are very interested in what you offer, and you are able to put your business in front of them.

But there are ways of doing this and ways not to... Firstly, don't do what most new home business owners do, and invite others to become your friend only to try to sell them something as soon as they accept. It's a bit like moving to a new place, inviting your new neighbors over for lunch, and then trying to sell them something as soon as they arrive.

You wouldn't do this in real life, so don't do it online either.

Your first focus is on building relationships with these people. Contribute to their lives, by offering value. If you come across a resource that is genuinely interesting or informative, tell your new friends about it. They'll appreciate it, and will be more likely share what they know with you. You'll eventually get to know these people, and get to know these people, they'll more than likely want to know more about you, which is when you might tell them what you offer.
