Is Keyword Research Software A Worthwhile Investment? - By: Pat Plank

Whether you're just getting started in the online marketing game or you've been at it for many years, one thing should be abundantly clear to even the most inexperienced of marketers: the need for a solid understanding of keywords, keyword research and how to utilize them effectively. There are several methods for doing proper keyword research, some relying on particular online services to "spy" on their competition, others doing it manually. And there is another option: keyword research software.
But can keyword research software really help your endeavors online? The purpose of all software regardless of it being keyword research, article submission, or something else entirely, is to help cut down on the time spent on a specific task, thus enabling the user to do things that make them money, rather than spending extra time on mundane tasks.
Keyword research software is excellent for this as it allows you to simply input your chosen keywords and phrases and query several top search engines at once. By doing this, the software saves you, the marketer, a lot of time and you can see within minutes (seconds sometimes) whether or not a particular keyword has no competition, a lot or is "just right."
Any good keyword research software should be able to query the "big 3", they being MSN, Yahoo and Google, and return results similar to what you would get if you did it manually. I say similar because the results are always changing and there will be some variance between the results you get manually versus your software.
Another thing that good keyword research software will have is the ability to create projects for specific keyword phrases. Let's say you're about to run several affiliate marketing campaigns all on different products in different niches. Good software will allow you to create a project for each one and store the respective keyword lists separate from the other projects.
Something else that newer keyword research software can do is go out and get you the cost per click estimate, sites that are using your particular phrase, and even the ads that they use. This is phenomenal for "spying" on your competition and seeing what is working for them. You can very quickly come up with your own modifications.
Finally, you may notice that I make no mention of particular keyword research software, nor any recommendation. The reason for this is that everyone has different requirements and budgets. Some of you may opt for a web-based monthly fee type application, while others prefer installed software with either a one time fee or free. Free? yes there is excellent free keyword research software out there that does what I've described above, you'll just have to Google it.
Ultimately, the choice to use keyword research software or do your own research is one you will have to make based on your own set of criteria. But, if a tool can save you time, making the research go quicker so you can spend more of it marketing your products and making money, it certainly is something to look into.

Whether you're just getting started in the online marketing game or you've been at it for many years, one thing should be abundantly clear to even the most inexperienced of marketers: the need for a solid understanding of keywords, keyword research and how to utilize them effectively.
