Man Leaves Job to Pursue Music Career - By: Janine Broderick

As the economy continues to spiral into an abyss of doubt and hardship, John Aita realized that his position as the vice president of a mortgage bank was not secure. Realizing his company had filed for bankruptcy, he knew he had major decisions to make for himself and his family. John retired from his high paying job and hung up his suit and tie to follow his dream of becoming a rock star.

John, a Great Neck, New York native, worked as the vice president of Delta Financial Corp., a mortgage lending firm, for 10 years before choosing to dedicate his life to his band, The Mondays. John is lead guitarist for this pop music group and has a full length CD; "Cherry Bomb" set to be released in the summer of 2009.

John's ambition has not only limited him to The Mondays. He prides himself as being an accomplished on air talent and producer, where he co-hosts the radio show The Edge. Hellmann's Mayonnaise has featured John with cooking phenomenon Bobby Flay, asking him to create a unique dish for the event, "Built a Perfect Sandwich."

John began posting his media on talent Web sites. He was looking for a creative outlet that would allow him to meet new people and ultimately "get discovered." John uses talent sites as his interactive resume. He puts all of his relevant media on the sites, letting him use the links to display his talents. As a result of using one talent Web site, John landed a commercial with the Bahamas Tourism Board and has booked numerous gigs with his band.

The failing financial market has not only affected John Aita. There are numerous accounts of other professionals losing their careers or being forced to leave their positions. The job market has left many career minded people to delve into their inner creativity. Like many that have been so unlucky to lose everything they have worked for, John has also fallen victim.

Many talent Web sites have realized the needs of its members and have put a focus on its unemployed users. The talent sites try to maximize each member's exposure to the fullest. Some have certain aspects of its sites to especially help those in need while still keeping an even playing field for all. For instance, one talent site in particular offers a feature called Stage of the Day. This highlights one user's achievements on the homepage for a full 24 hours. This allows for the sites members to become familiar with each other and their needs while paying tribute.

Recession allows John Aita to dive into creativity on talent sites
