Internet Business is For Self-Starters
- By: Richard Lang
There are many different ways to make money on the Internet. Some involve selling goods or products online, others involve producing quality content and selling advertising to sponsors, yet another involves affiliate marketing. Some types of Internet business require a lot more time, energy and effort than others. Typically, these are the models that carry the biggest payoffs. No matter what online business model is chosen, a certain level of proactive independence is required for real success.
What is a Self-Starter?
You've heard the term before: self-starter. You've seen it in job ads online or in the classified section of your newspaper, but what does it mean? The definition of "self-starter" given at The Free Dictionary online is "a person who is strongly motivated and shows initiative at work." A self-starter is someone who makes his or herself responsible for their own training. This type of person does not sit around waiting to be told what needs to be done, they proactively (or intuitively) identify what needs to be done and do it. Self-starters by nature are fast learners and curious people. The self-starter is a tireless, energetic breed of people who simply do not give up easily. Other qualities exhibited by self-starters include:
-- Taking responsibility
-- Taking ownership of any given project
-- Starting what they finished
Why Does Internet Business Require Self-Starters?
Many people go into Internet business because they want to be their own boss, or because they enjoy the freedom of working on their own schedule, or because they enjoy the unlimited money-earning potential involved. These reasons are similar to the reasons many entrepreneurs in the brick and mortar world go into business for themselves. Because Internet business is something that must be built from the ground up, self-starters are more successful at it. People without the initiative to produce will likely not make it in Internet business. Self-starters, on the other hand, will be able to:
-- Define and organize goals effectively
-- Stay motivated and on-task
-- Investigate and try out new business strategies
-- Market goods and services tirelessly
-- Always be asking "what's next?"
-- Train and motivate staff
Another reason Internet business requires self-starters for success is the dynamic nature of the Web. Because the Internet is constantly changing, what works in terms of Internet business is constantly changing as well. In order to keep up with the changes and stay competitive in a market that has thousands of new players every day, Internet marketers must have the drive and energy to stay current on practices, business models, and what works on the Web.
The Good News
Even if you've never been a self-starter at any job you've ever held, it doesn't mean you can't start now. Because of the fact that you will now be working for yourself, you will naturally tend to be more motivated than you were when you were working for someone else. You can be a self-starter if you commit to it. You will find that as your hard work and dedication start to pay off, you will become even more motivated to be a self-starter and to exhibit some of the qualities listed above. The more you become a self-starter, the more money you will make online, which will only motivate you further. Anyone can become a self-starter with the right inspiration. Creating a successful online career and enjoying the freedom and lifestyle that only Internet business can offer are great reasons to become a self-starter.
