Dandruff is an unexplained ailment. Dandruff occurs due to the extreme shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp of the head. The majority of cases can be effortlessly treated with specific shampoos. Dandruff is not an organism or parasite like head lice; it is mere dead skin that accumulates in the scalp. Dandruff is doubtful to be the cause of hair loss or baldness.

When the cells of the scalp of the head excessively die and flake off, the condition is known as dandruff. Dandruff is easily visible as flakes present in the hair, most often accompanied by itchiness of the scalp. The itchiness can be mild or severe depending on the amount of dandruff that is present.

Treatment:

1. Proper shampooing and using the right shampoo is the usual and easiest treatment of dandruff. Most shampoos help in removing flakes but it would be more beneficial when the fungus are shed away from your head. When the fungi are killed, most likely, the dandruff will not occur again with continuous treatment. There are shampoos that offer active ingredients that help prevent and remove dandruff.

2. Mix a two-to-one ratio of apple cider vinegar and warm water (two vinegar to one water). If you want to cleanse and condition your scalp further and add a fragrance to your hair then you can always a couple of drops of essential oils such as lavender or rosemary - both excellent for getting rid of itchy scalps and dandruff. (Always patch test oils for allergies, and always consult your doctor if you are pregnant).

3. Boil five teaspoons of dried used tea leaves in lime water and use it as a last rinse after shampoo. It will give the hair a lustrous shine and provides nourishment too.

4. Combine one tablespoon glycerin, one tablespoon vinegar, one tablespoon coconut oil, and one egg. Mix until the materials form a paste. Put this mixture on your scalp and let it stay for about one hour. Then wash your hair using a shampoo. Do this once each week.

5. Massage some oil on your scalp about 3 times a week. Never rinse it out.

6. Combine one tablespoon fresh lemon juice with 100 grams witch hazel. Add 200 ml water and use this mixture to wash your hair. This is to be done many times until your hair become free from dandruff.

7. Hair gels and other hair products can irritate the scalp in some people causing dandruff.

8. Fenugreek seeds have curative powers to reduce dandruff. They are softened in water and applied to the scalp every morning. After an hour or so, they are washed with soap nut. This keeps dandruff away and prevents falling hair.

9. A daily bath is essential. Even if you do not shampoo your hair daily (if you are doing this, then remember to use a mild shampoo suited to your hair type), you must wash your scalp thoroughly. After the bath, dry your hair and then brush it in order to remove the flaky dandruff from it.
