Is Google PageRank Still A Valid Marketing Tool?

By: Titus Hoskins

pagerank question The Google PageRank Toolbar in SEO circles is a hotly debated item, as are most issues dealing with Google. Some say it’s useless, others say it gives you a general overview of your site’s standing in Google. Regardless of who is right, this Toolbar shouldn’t be ignored nor worshipped, just closely watched.

The Google PR Toolbar is a simple tool you can download and place on your browser. When you surf the web, this toolbar will give you Google’s PR or Page Rank for that particular site or page. Google ranks all web pages from a scale of 0 to 10. This Toolbar is more like the Richter scale than an ordinary scale, there’s a big difference in the rankings as you go up and they are not proportional.

You must also realize each of these ranking points are further divided and only Google knows the exact placement of your site or page within your shown PR number.  For example, if you have a PR6 site your site could be at low end of the PR6 scale (closer to PR5) or at the top end which would make it more of a PR7 site. Big difference.

Linking Is Still Your Master-Key To Online Success

Site Promotion No Comments »

linking image

David Notestine, of Zeus, Cyber-Robotics.com fame, just sent me an interesting email and I felt that I just had to pass it along. For anyone even remotely thinking of having any sort of viable presence on the Internet, I strongly recommend that you read every word carefully. After you have read this message, just remember that you can link to us at the ABC Directory Web Resources, http://www.abcarticledirectory.com/resources/ for free, or get premium one-way links for a modest fee.

“Hello Emmanuel

What is going on? There seems to be a division of thoughts on the
Internet as to Link Marketing. There are those like Google and
the powers that be who keep teaching about linking guidelines and
how linking to other web sites is the only way to market. Then
you have others, mainly webmasters who say linking is dead and
should not be done. Who do you believe?

Lsi and Theme Based Relevancy

Search Engines (seo) 2 Comments »

 By: Loredana Sargu

keywords    In the past 2 years, a very important factor in web content writing was keyword density, with the recommended 2 to 7% agreed by most seo experts. Well, that has changed for 2007, at least as far as Google goes. Their new patent clearly indicates the massive role that Latent Semantic Indexing is going to play in how they evaluate the relevancy of any given page and therefore its rank by closely considering co-occurrence rates and semantically related phrases, especially focusing the attention on the first one.

Here is an excerpt of the patent filling:
“The system is further adapted to identify phrases that are related to each other, based on a phrase’s ability to predict the presence of other phrases in a document. More specifically, a prediction measure is used that relates to the co-occurrence rate of two phrases to an expected co-occurrence rate of the two phrases. Info gain, as the ratio of actual co-occurrence rate to expected co-occurrence rate, is one such prediction measure. Two phrases are then related where the prediction measure exceeds a predetermined threshold. In that case, the second phrase has significant information gain with respect to the first phrase. Semantically, related phrases will be those that are commonly used to discuss or describe a given topic or concept, such as “President of the United States” and “White House.” For a given phrase, the related phrases can be ordered according to their relevance or significance based on their respective prediction measures.”

5 Steps To Overcoming Writers Block

Better Writing No Comments »

By: James Roche

writers block    There is a cure for writers block…and it’s probably not what you think. In fact, if you follow these five simple steps you can permanently end writers block forever. This five step technique is as old as paper and pen. (You can also use this technique to get un-stuck in any area of your life.)

When I’m working with my clients, there’s no time to get stuck writing and creating their e-books and workbooks. Maybe you can relate – you’re inbox is full, people are waiting for you to produce results and deadlines are looming over you. On top of all this pressure, you want to write that award winning best seller. There’s no time to waste staring at a blank screen WISHING you had ideas. You have to write this now, time is money! The longer you sit and stare at a blank page the farther away you get from your publisher’s deadline (and your paycheck!)

The Myth about Writers Block
One of the greatest myths about writers block is that you have to wait for inspiration to hit you. Nonsense! The production of new ideas is as definite a process as getting up in the morning and preparing for work. The key to stopping writers block is to come up with new ideas and translate them onto the keyboard quickly and easily. And new ideas are created following a proven, time-tested formula.

How to Come Up with New Ideas Quickly
Italian sociologist Vilfredo Pareto defined an idea as “nothing more or less than a new combination of old elements.” The secret to ending writers block is developing the skill to see relationships between old elements so that you can always have fresh ideas flowing in.

This skill is easy to develop because we do it all the time and may not even recognize it.

When you read a book you mix the words on the page with the thoughts in your head and viola! You’ve just created a new picture in your head. That’s a new idea. You took two unrelated things, words on a page and thoughts in your head, to create something completely new and unique – a picture in your mind’s eye.

All you need to do to end writers block is use these 5 easy steps consistently so they becomes a habit. Once you do these five steps a few times you’ll be amazed at how quickly inspiration will come to you.

How to Defend your Website from the Google Duplicate Proxy Exploit

Scams 1 Comment »

By: Sophie White

duplicate proxy finder    There is a current and active way to knock a website out of Google’s search engine results.  It’s simple and effective.  This information is already in the public domain and the more people that know about it, the more likelihood there is that Google will do something about it.  This article will tell you how it works, how to get a website knocked out of the search engine rankings, but most importantly, how to defend your own website from having it happen to you.

To understand this exploit, you must first understand about Google’s Duplicate Content filter.  It’s simply described thus: Google doesn’t want you to search for “blue widget” and have the top 10 search terms returned copies of the same article on how great blue widgets are.  They want to give you ONE copy of the Great Blue Widget article, and 9 other different results, just on the off chance that you’ve already read that article and the other results are actually what you wanted.

Google Ranking Secrets

Site Promotion, Search Engines (seo) No Comments »

By: Jim Pretin

Google Logos    Google is by far the most important search engine on the net. To rise to the top of their search engine, you need to improve your link popularity and you need to understand how they measure your link popularity (over 50% of all search engine traffic comes from Google, and if you can rise to the top, you will likely rise to the top of all the other search engines as well).

Link popularity is defined as the number of sites that are linking to your site. Some websites have thousands or even millions of sites linking to them, while others might have only a few. The search engines use the number of inbound links your site has as a measure of how important your site is, which translates into your search engine ranking.

Negative SEO - What’s it all about?

Search Engines (seo) No Comments »

negative SEO    If your online business, like thousands of others on the Web, relies on Google searches for traffic, then Negative SEO is something you should know about.

Negative SEO can boost a site to the top of Google search results for lucrative search terms, and at the same time reduce a competing site’s visibility to searchers or making it seem to disappear from search results altogether.

Negative SEO is a harmless-sounding term that amounts to sabotaging a Web site’s ranking in search engine results. Sometimes negative SEO is performed for reputation management, tweaking online content so that it floats to the top of Google or Yahoo! results, thereby pushing a critic’s negative comments to a lower ranking. But in some cases, negative SEO involves more dubious means, convincing Google or Yahoo’s search algorithms to bury a competitor’s site deep within search results, where its traffic practically evaporates.

 By: Abhishek Agarwal

cash, lots of cash    Every single day I receive an email from someone or the saying:

“Abhi, please send me a list of keywords that will pay me $20-$30 per click in AdSense”

You see, I do not blame them for asking that question. It’s not their fault. There is a lot of misinformation floating around the Internet. And newbies get attracted to anything that promises a lot of riches.

You will find many sites that will sell you lists of  “High-paying AdSense Keywords” or list of keywords that will “Sky-rocket your AdSense earnings overnight”.

They make you feel that if you purchase their list and design your sites based on these keywords, your AdSense earnings would touch the sky.

According to them, Google pays you around 50% of the keyword cost. So if someone clicks on the Ad, for a keyword costing $50, you will earn around $25…Cool!
