Free Article Directory Topsites List Monitoring Service

News 1 Comment »

article directory topsitesYes, it’s true. I have started a new, free, article directory topsites list, as an additional service at the ABC Article Directory. Anyone that has an article directory or article directories, can have their sites monitored and compared to other similar sites in terms of traffic and position.

The new script can be seen at,  http://www.abcarticledirectory.com/top-article-directory/ , and, if you happen to have an article directory of your own, I will be more than  happy to have you on board.

If you are an author wanting to know where to place your articles, it might be a good idea to see how much traffic some article directories are generating. After all, what’s the use of submitting articles to every directory on the planet if most of them get little or no visitors. You want your articles to be seen and read. Read the rest of this entry »

AOL Acquires Q&A Yedda, Inc.

News, Marketing, Products or Services, Tools and Resources No Comments »

Yedda signup  Just got an interesting email from the management team at Yedda informing me that they had just been acquired by AOL. This is of particular interest to the ABC Article Directory, due to the fact that we were one of the early adopters of the Yedda Q&A system on our site. As a matter of fact, it is still listed on our home page as a new feature. Looks like we know how to pick winners. You can check out how it works by accessing any article on the ABC Article Directory and scrolling down to the end of the article, just past the resource box.

To quote from the email “Over 100M unique visitors a month are now going to be using the Yedda QnA platform, and power and enrich the QnA database our partners benefit from. Moreover, this huge community will now also be exposed to your website via the attribution of all questions originated from your site. “

BlogRush Expanding Beyond Control In Only 5 Crazy Days

News 3 Comments »

BlogRush Logo

BlogRush has certainly exploded exponentially on the blogging scene and has shown a marked expansion in a very small time frame.  However, as with any rapidly growing new idea that catches the fancy of multitudes of Internet users, the developers seem to be overwhelmed by the success. I have included two snippets regarding BlogRush. I personally joined up…right friggin away. I can now say that I spotted a winner right from the beginning….5 days ago!

First and foremost is the Company spiel. You be the judge of whether or not you should  can go to their website and get additional information, if you find their pitch interesting . Secondly, you will find a rather humorous (to me, not the sender) email I received today from the BlogRush team. It highlights various problems associated with highly successful sites (too fast, too soon) including the ever present problem with spammers.

The ABC Article Directory Site is Upgrading To A New Server Again

News No Comments »

By: Emmanuel DeFreitas

Homer finds out ABC Article Directory page does not load

The ABC Article Directory is upgrading its server to a new improved faster model and visitors should soon be experiencing a far speedier response time for queries. Unfortunately, there were some glitches in the transfer and the directory has been experiencing some hiccups in page loading. Anyone that has had the misfortune of trying to access certain pages on the article directory during a ‘hiccup’ may have experienced a little “turbulence”. Worst still, they may have gotten a ‘404 error message’…. a message that their browser could not load the page…. or simply nothing at all.

When the site was moved to the new server, it was supposed to change IP addresses…. It didn’t. It always makes sites go haywire until the ISP’s get them cached on the new IP. But when moving the site is left up on BOTH ips for about a week… then there is no downtime at all (or any of this ‘turbulence’ I’ve been experiencing) This is temporary and should only take a couple of days (The old accounts were deleted from the server on Sunday.. not realizing that cPanel did NOT create the new ones until it was too late… but by then, the old IP was gone and it has to go through this nonsense with the cached IPs at all the ISP’s !

I have faith in my Hosting account with GoGreen Hosting and I know they are doing their best to get things smoothed over. I am also proud of the fact that they use only renewable energy sources to power their servers. I highly recommend their hosting packages because I believe in what they stand for. I should become an affiliate if they have a program.

Anyway…The reason for this little blurb is to tell everyone to hang in there. If at first you don’t succeed in getting through to the ABC Article Directory …reload …reload …reload. This should clear up in a few days and page loading and overall performance of the site should be improved tremendously. This should provide a much better site experience for all visitors and members.

Article Dashboard Sites Vulnerable To iFrame Injection Attack

News 2 Comments »

By: Emmanuel DeFreitas

iframe injectionYou can imagine my surprise when I logged into one of my Article Dashboard scripted sites, and found that I had a warning from Geocities stating that I had exceeded my bandwidth and my site: http://geocities.com/MarinoCorbie2838 was shut down. Who the hell is Marino Corbie? You see, my site is an Article Dashboard scripted site that is not hosted by Geocities! My site, ADB Article Directory, http://www.adjustable-bed-center.com/adb/ , is hosted at Hostgator.

I immediately got on the phone and called customer service to see if I could get to the bottom of this. After a few minutes of explaining using  my befuddled, non-technical terminology, the pleasant young fellow at the other end of the line got cracking trying to figure out what was wrong. Fifteen minutes later, he had come to the conclusion that there was nothing he could do and suggested I fire off a support ticket.

A support ticket was submitted and I eagerly awaited my fate.  I had received my first response in rather short order. It stated “It seems that particular file (index.php) has been exploited using iframe injection, I’m escalating this to the appropriate department so they can further investigate this issue. If theres anything else we can assist you with please let us know and we’ll be glad to help.” WTF…excuse my French…is an iframe injection and since it was now being “escalated to the appropriate department” I thought there was definitely something serious going on here.

Bloggers Need to Beware of Violating FTC Deceptive Practice Standards When Making Endorsements

 By: Robert Masud

handcuffed blogger by the FTC   The Federal Trade Commission (”the Commission or FTC”) has handed down an advisory opinion that may have dire consequences for companies that employ individuals who are involved in blogging and promote those companies products or services while blogging.  According to the Commission, this may hold true even if these employees are undertaking this blogging on their personal time and even if the company management has no idea of what may be going on.  The Commission advises that such a blogger must make readers aware of his or her connection with the company whose products or services he or she is endorsing.

Hot News From Google and The ABC Article Directory

News No Comments »

So far so good. The ABC Article Directory finally has a pagerank from Google that is solid in all the data centers. We went from zero to a Google PRpagerank of five…not too shabby for a relatively new article directory. Our list of links can use some improvement as we somehow do not seem to get people wanting to link to us yet. Go figure… we now are a high Google rated site and all the link chasers on the net do not even bother to exchange links with us. If you are on the ball, I would highly recommend that you check out our resources directory and submit your site at: http://www.abcarticledirectory.com/resources/

article Letting others use your articles, as long as they include your byline, is a very effective way to increase website traffic. Most articles which are posted online will include a byline which not only tells visitors you wrote it and might say how they can contact you, but will normally include a link to the website you are trying to promote.

MYSQL Problems at ABC Article Directory Resolved!

News 1 Comment »

By: E: DeFreitas

panic button

There was quite a bit of nervous tension over the last couple of days as errors began to appear on my websites and slowly but surely, everything began to shut down. The ABC Article Directory was having an excellent day on Friday, March 9th, as far as visitors was concerned and was looking at possibly an all time high when it started to slowly collapse like a house of cards shortly after noon. I checked my monitoring site for visitors and saw 115 visitors online go down to 90…80…70…all the way to zero.

I got off my respirator and called my web hosting service to see if they could identify the problem. Fifteen emails and countless phone calls later and nothing could be resolved. They said that there appeared to be something wrong with the script I was using for the article directories. The cache was being filled and mysql was unable to complete any requests. There was an unusually large spam attack that they took care of but that only alleviated the problem temporarily. I finally went to bed that evening knowing that there were thousands of people trying in vain to access my article directory. I was totally exhausted and with nerves so frazzled I felt my skin itch.
