To avoid the scattershot approach, choose one or two social networking sites that fit your business well and invest the time to maximize your presence in them. Let’s explore what that might look like if Facebook is one of your choices.

Prepare your best information before you start.

Avoid the “I will go back and fill that in later” trap. Have all your necessary information on hand, ready to copy and paste on the spot. Complete a worksheet containing:

EBay Warning: Dropshipping? PayPal Is Holding Your Money!

Tools and Resources No Comments »

eBay logoEBay has been the ideal home based business for years. Most of us started with the ‘clean out the garage’ model, and over time graduated to dropshipping, and in many cases, it has turned into a pretty significant fulltime income.

Over the last several weeks, several VERY disturbing changes have taken place at EBay as EBay seems intent on wiping out the very business base that built the behemoth, to focus on the corporate clientele that have taken a much larger position on EBay over the past couple of years, using EBay to sell off their excess inventory directly, rather than selling to the large discount chains as was the previous habit.

Here’s an overview of some of the most significant - and damaging - changes that affect you and I, the folks that have built home businesses around EBay…. Read the rest of this entry »

Become the Tarzan of the Google Jungle…

Tools and Resources 1 Comment »

Google adwordsIt is human nature to defend your position… That said, our hard outer shell defends our inner weak emotional self. The one that one minute may hate someone and the next say that they love them.

Yes there is a truth that some people have a stronger emotional sturdiness, but they are few are far between.

Google Adwords and Google Adsense are an integral part of the Google jungle. The jungle itself is amazing to look at and equally exciting to visit; but if you are not careful you’ll get slapped, stung and leave the jungle penniless, as if robbed.

The image I am trying to create here is do we become the Tarzan of the Jungle, and become ‘one’ with the jungle. Or… do we get the hell out of the jungle and look for safety in our own ready built concrete haven? As we look back at that jungle of rivers and foliage, I may suggest we exaggerate with a little more intensity ever time we describe our experience. Instead of getting out of the jungle to save our sanity, we say we fought off lions and tigers and we could have been the king of that jungle. As with Google Adwords and Adsense, we walked through the rivers of the campaigns and systems… but ran away before we could conquer; to be overpowered by the foliage. Read the rest of this entry »

Google Sitemaps 7 Benefits You Can’t Ignore

Tools and Resources 1 Comment »

google sitemapGoogle Sitemaps enables Webmasters to Directly Alert Google to Changes and Additions on a Website and that’s just one of 7 Benefits.

Telling search engines about new pages or new websites used to be what the submission process was all about. But major search engines stopped using that process a long time ago.

Google has for a long time depended on external links from pages they already know about in order to find new websites.

For webmasters and website owners Google Sitemaps is the most important development since RSS or Blog and Ping, to hit the Internet.

Using RSS and Blog and Ping enabled webmasters to alert the search engines to new additions to their web pages even though that was not the primary purpose of these systems. Read the rest of this entry »

An Internet Marketers Best Friend: The Autoresponder

Marketing, Tools and Resources No Comments »

autorespondersMost Internet marketers know the power that lies with the autoresponder.  They have even been termed as being “a marketers best friend”. How and why is this? Well, if you are unfamiliar with autoresponders you could be in for a real treat!  They provide the ability to email a large group of people at the same time without having to write the same email over and over again.  An autoresponder can send pre-written emails to recipients throughout a predetermined time period.  What can this mean to you? Well, huge time savings are definately apparent but the real power of the autoresponder is due to the fact that you can virtually automate your selling process which can provide you with a massive automated income!

Why is an autoresponder a marketer’s best friend?  There’s a saying that goes as follows…”Exposure is everything but the fortune is in the follow-up.”  You can expose a prospect to your web site and they may buy what you have to offer.  However, if you really want to significantly increase the chances of getting a sale, then you need to follow up with as many people that visit your web site as possible.  Autoresponders provide you with the ability to do just that. Don’t Pester The Editor

Content is King, Tools and Resources 1 Comment »

editor working on a computerAs an editor, I can tell you that one of my BIGGEST pet peeves is when a writer “pesters” me every other day or once a week about his (or her) submission. I don’t mind if it’s a viable question, but what I hate is when the writer’s impatience takes hold and I feel “squeezed” as if the writer’s pestering is going to make me accept his (or her) submission faster.

I think new writers, or writers with too much time on their hands, think that a little pestering will keep him (or her) on the forefront of the editor’s mind so that when the editor sees his (or her) submission, the editor will be inclined to look at it, recognize the name, and then buy the piece. And in a way, it makes sense. But what usually happens is quite the opposite. The editor becomes annoyed with the nagging writer and decides to simply decline the article—sometimes before it has even been read. Read the rest of this entry »

Web Hosts - Choose Wisely For Business Success or Choose Badly For Failure and Frustration

Compare Web Hosts for Satisfaction and Not Sorrow

Host Unlimited Domains on 1 Account  I have been a web master for about 8 years now. In this business that makes me an ancient. One benefit of experience is having already stumbled over a lot of newbie mistakes so I can (hopefully) avoid those mistakes in the future. I am sure I can find plenty of new mistakes to make.

One of the most important aspects of my business, and one thing that can make or break me no matter what else I do right, is finding a reliable web host. Most of us who build, promote, and maintain websites do not keep our own servers. We usually rent space for our websites from a web hosting company. Read the rest of this entry »

Web Log Analysis

Marketing, Tools and Resources 1 Comment »

web logEveryone who understands Internet Marketing will tell you to analyze your web logs… but what does that really mean? What particular things should you pay attention to when analyzing your web logs?

Errors - Page Not Found

How many visitors to your site experience an incorrect or invalid URL? Perhaps you have links on your website to a page that no longer exists. Reviewing the number of “page not found” listings in your web logs will help discern if you have any pages that are not accessible to your visitors. If that is the case, you can then either replace the missing page, or implement a system to automatically redirect the visitor to an appropriate alternate page.

Top Referrers

Where is your traffic coming from? Reviewing the sources of web traffic allows you to assess what advertising campaigns have resulted in increased web traffic. Read the rest of this entry »
