keyword stuffingAre you a keyword stuffing moron?

I just finished rejecting an article that was submitted to my article directory, by an author that just does not understand why he is writing articles in the first place. I felt compelled to write this article as a warning to potential authors with self destructive tendencies. This particular article in question had a keyword repeated so many times throughout the body of the article, that it made it painfully unreadable, by a human.

I added “by a human”,  at the end of the last sentence to emphasize a point. It is agonizingly obvious that this particular author (who shall remain nameless), was not writing to attract the attention of people. He was seeking the attention of search engine bots. He somehow got the idea that by stuffing his article with the same keyword, over and over again, he would place high in Google, Yahoo, Msn and any other search engine that happened to notice. Even if this became a reality, which I doubt, upon further analysis, what would be the eventual outcome of this article’s inclusion in the major search engines?

I, as the administrator of an article directory, would be receiving traffic from the search engines generated by individuals that were interested in garnering information related to this particular keyword. These individuals would begin reading this article, only to find that it contained very little useful information and that it was practically unreadable. After a few seconds of reading, these individuals (potential customers) would click away in disgust.

In the aftermath of this fiasco, two things are certain to occur:

1) My article directory will be indelibly branded as a site that accepts useless articles and cannot be trusted by serious visitors looking for vital information. This will cause irreparable harm to serious, dedicated authors that trust my better judgement in accepting only useful, well written, informative and well researched articles.

2) The author of this article will be branded as a useless, brain-dead moron, that has no clue what he is talking about. His reputation will precede him in his futile attempts to gain some form of positive presence on the Internet for his site. Eventually, if he continues to submit further drivel, I will be forced to mercifully ban him from my article directory and save myself the chore of repeatedly deleting his article submissions.

What this author (and I use the term “author” loosely) failed to realize is that eventually, the article is going to be read by a real, live, breathing human being. Search engines are tools that were created to serve individuals. When authors start writing articles for search engines, they need to give their heads a shake and re-assess their priorities. To survive long term, you have to write your articles with the primary intention of providing something of value to people.

A well researched and well written article that provides some valuable information will stand the test of time and will be noticed for all the right reasons. The author, and invariably his website, will be recognized as sources of information on a unique subject. The search engines will be forced to index his articles in a highly ranked position and my article directory will not be known as a depository for useless information from useless individuals. It’s a win-win scenario.
