Ensuring Your Child’s Safety In Day Care

It’s natural for parents to worry about their children’s safety, especially when they are away. Parents would always want to be with their children all the time. This not always possible as they have to leave the house and go out to work for their children to have a comfortable life.

A day care centre is the reasonable alternative where working parents can leave their children to spend the day while they are away at work. So, how do you ensure that your child is safe at the care centre?

Here are tips that will help you:

1. Picking A Care Centre

When you come to the conclusion that you need child care, you should start looking for one immediately. Try to plan ahead to ensure that you are not pressurized and end up picking the wrong one. Do a thorough research on the centres you have in mind. Visit them if possible to see how activities are carried out and how children are handled. Ensure that you observe the safety measures that have been put in place. You will be able to know whether a care centre is safe by observing such safety measures.

2. Sanitary Measures

Germs are present everywhere, especially where children meet. Child care centres are places where children can get a lot of infections and illnesses because of the germs present. Hence, parents should start teaching their children about good hygiene practices from an early age. Bathe them every day after arriving home from the centre. Teach them how to wash their hands and when to wash them. Teach them to cover up when coughing.

Look around the centre to see if a hand sanitizer is provided at the changing stations and at the dining area. If none is provided, recommend the idea to the centre manager.

3. Security Measures

Children are very curious and like trying out new things. They will always wander away no matter how keen you are to watch them. They can be quite mischievous. A good centre always has this in mind, especially if the ratio of adult to child is low.

A good centre will have a fenced play area outdoors. This helps reduce chances of children wandering off and getting lost or getting into accidents. The type of fence used should also be strong and shouldn’t allow children to squeeze their bodies through to the other side.

4. Pick Up Policy

Ensure that the centre doesn’t allow strangers to visit or pick children without the parents’ permission. Provide a list, giving the names and contacts of people who can pick your child. Keep a copy of the same list to avoid confusion in case something happens. Ask the care provider to request for ID’s of people who come to pick up your child. This will give you peace of mind as a parent.

Children are very precious to their parents; hence, parents would go an extra mile to ensure that they are safe at all times. These tips will help you and your care provider ensure that your child and other children at the centre are safe. It’s certainly always better to be safe than sorry.
