Music and art are normally synonymous for this artist. He was used having a house that has singing and painting all the time. He was surprised when he got to school and learned that everybody didn't draw and sing. Letting go of his artistic talent so he could concentrate on music during his teen years is what he did and now this is what he does for a living. Instead of washing cars for money, he would play with local bands which earned him more.
Music had become his life for about 30 years. It was only 12 years pass that he thought about art again. Since then, he keeps painting and still continues to. As though he was back in his younger years, he now sings and paints. However, today the images that he has created have more meaning to them.
Being that he knows of a musician who had a knack for painting, he asked for oil painting lessons. It was his goal to work on his realistic style while he was under the guidance of his mentor. The results of the lessons was that he was able to make a painting that was chosen as a promotional print the year it was painted, and a portrait of a long haired, white cat.
What you show people is the result of your work. Normally ne targets emotions and checks a certain scene to see where that is. Usually, his main targets for people's portraits are the flattering images. He is aware that the most essential factor in flattery is the right light.
Being able to capture the right lighting and shadow depth will help make the image more realistic. Despite using watercolor, some people still perceive it to be oil. He uses watercolor since it is more practical and easy.
In his biggest painting job yet, he painted a mural for a couple who live in the Clover Hill section of Frederick. One whole wall in their home is now covered with colonial Williamsburg which he painted. Since they are avid fans of the early American village, this mural is another representation of it. It is of a fictional street that the mural is done which measures about 10 feet wide by 4 feet tall.
Wanting to make the mural more authentic he added some drawings of wagons and people dressed in colonial garb and hollyhocks. While on the project his usually working hours was about six to 12 hours a day four days a week. Rehearsals were what the other three days was for. To him, when you paint you are physical and mentally drained. Letting go of all the distractions is required when painting.
For this artist, art and music were always synonymous. Coming from Fredrick, his house was always filled with music and paintings. Even when he began going to school he was not used to knowing that some people were not as into music and drawing as others were. During his teens he set aside his love for the arts to concentrate on music and today he is known for it. As a teen, his source of income was playing with bands rather than the usual carwash.
