Alberta, Canada is home to beautiful landscape, rich in natural resources, and is also the hometown of some big Hollywood stars. So, next time you find yourself with your feet up in your Fort McMurray furnished suite, watching Entertainment tonight, remember, some of those celebrities were born right in your backyard. Here are some famous people that you never knew were born in Alberta.
Elisha Ann Cuthbert was born in Calgary, Alberta, and grew up in Montreal, Quebec. She is famous for her role as a co-host on Popular Mechanics for Kids. While she was trotting the globe for the series, the first lady of the United States at the time (Hilary Clinton), invited her to Washington to meet with her. Elisha left Canada at the age of 17 to pursue her acting career in Los Angeles, California. She gave herself a six week deadline to "make it or break it," and by week five, she got a starring role on the popular series on Fox called 24. She also starred in the Girl Next Door, Love Actually, Old School, Airspeed, House of Wax, and Captivity.
Michael J. Fox:
Michael J. Fox was born in Edmonton, Alberta, on June 9, 1961. Michael is an actor, author, activist, and voice-over actor. At the age of 15, Michael starred in the show Leo and Me. He then moved to Los Angeles at the age of 18 to pursue his acting career. His first feature films were Midnight Madness and Class of 1984. He later went on to star in the very popular series Family Ties, which aired on NBC, and won three Emmy's for his acting on the show, as well as a Golden Globe Award. Later, he starred in the Back to the Future Trilogy, Teen Wolf, For Love of Money, and the popular series Spin City and Scrubs. Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991, and announced his condition to the public in 1999. Michael was one in four actors on the show Leo and Me developed Parkinson's disease. There is some investigation as to whether an environmental factor played a role in the onset of the disease in several of the show's cast members. After Michael came out to the public about his condition, he decided to semi-retire from acting in 2000.
Tricia was born on April 11, 1974 in Donalda, Alberta, and was raised on a grain farm. She was discovered at the age of seventeen by a modelling scout while she was standing in the line of a local movie theater, and as they say, the rest is history. Tricia is most famous for playing the Cyclon Number Six in Battlestar Galactica. She also starred in the films: Green Lantern, Open House, Mistletoe over Manhattan, and also hosting Canada's Next Top Model.
Nathan Fillion: Nathan was born in Edmonton, Alberta, on March 27, 1971. He is best known for playing the role of Richard Castle in the ABC series Castle.
