How To Live An Authentic And Joyful Life

The world can often be a competitive place. Despite the challenges that we face in our lives through the pressures of work and the demands of family, it is still achievable to live an authentic life.

When you live authentically, you feel as if you are living joyful and that new and positive experiences enter your life effortlessly. Here are some ways to live more authentically:

1. Think for yourself: We live a world where we have access to information like never before. We can literally 'google' any thought or concept and find an answer. This is a brilliant and amazing time to live in but it can also mean we are overloaded with information. Living authentically means pausing, reflecting and finding out what is right for you. A great exercise to do is to ask yourself questions such as 'Does this feel good to me?' 'Why am I doing this activity?' Listen to what your heart and your sub-conscious are telling you. Just listen, without judgment or the need to act on it.

2. Learn what juices you: Many people want to live authentic and joyful lives but are confused as to what it is that actually bring them joy. Here are some great exercise to do if you are confused about what brings you joy:

- Think back to when you were a child, what did you LOVE to do?

- What would you spend your time doing if you had all the money in the world?

- Create a vision board filled with anything that stands out to you. This might be pictures of clothes, people, words, holiday destinations or even just colours.

3. Immerse yourself in JOY: This sound simple but is a very powerful practice. If you can focus actively on spending approx. 20mins a day on activities that bring you joy, you will notice something amazing. Your life will be focused on what it has rather than what it does not. And if you believe in the law of attraction - this will automatically bring you more joy!

4. Get use to saying no: Living authentically means doing what feels right for you. This is not to say that you ignore your responsibilities at work or home - it means that you take ownership of that which you can control. When we are constantly doing what we think others want from us, we deny ourselves the experience of truly living our own joy. When we can be ok and become familiar with saying no, we also give those around us permission to look within and hopefully do what they need to do for themselves.

5. Authenticity is a journey not a destination: It is often a fallacy that people who are living authentically are happy 100% of the time. You are a human being and you are here to learn and grow. Life will still challenge you. The difference between people who are living an authentic life and those who are not, is that they possess more tools in their tool kit to be able to handle the challenges that life has to offer.
