How to Write an Interesting Book Review

Writing a book review and making it interesting to read - are not the same thing. There are numerous book reviews available online, but very few draw reader's attention. If you want to make your review an attention grabber, then you must follow certain rule of the thumb.

Select An Interesting Book

You must select a book of your choice, to write a review. Until and unless you are really enjoying the book, you will not be able to go into the details of the characters or the plot and so the review will not come out to be a proper one. However, when you chose a book of your interest, you would feel attracted to the book and it will be much easier to configure the characters or the story-line.

Read the Book Thoroughly

Do not start writing the book review just after reading the introduction or the back cover of the book. That is never the correct way of doing things. You might learn about the plot or the main characters by going through the other reviews available over the internet. But then it will be just the information. For a literary review, it is more of your analysis of the book or the piece of literature, rather than representing basic information about the book. The review will come out to be interesting only when you put your heart into it.

Do Some Homework

When you start reading the book with the intention of writing a book review, then you must sit with a pencil and a writing pad. The pair of a writing pad and a pencil; is the most important factor here. You can think of using a laptop, instead of these manual writing materials, but then it will be difficult for you to concentrate on the book. At the same time, with a pencil, you can have rough notes, which you can erase and modify, if required. However, with a pen, that is not possible. Keep on jotting down rough notes as you progress through the book, about the characters and the story-line.

Go Through Your Rough Notes

Once you finish the book and simultaneously, complete taking the notes; then it is time to do some overall literary analysis. You need to give some time to build up your thoughts, based on your rough notes and the overall experience of reading the book. You will start writing the review, only when you have completed the thought process.

Add Your Personal View

While writing the review, do not just make it a summary. A summary is available on the back cover, so no one will read your review, unless it has a personal touch. Take all the characters together or find one favourite character or take the plot itself and compare or analyze this. May be you wanted a character to behave in a different way or the plot to have some different ending - just express your personal views and involve the readers into your thought process.

A sincere and earnest effort like the above; will always help you to touch the mind of your readers.
