Being a business owner of any size, marketing and exposure are very important to your company's success. Trying to bring in new business can be a very difficult task in many markets. Basic strategies like signs, flyers and phone books lack the customer reach that is used to hold. I have personally seen a company pass out over ten thousand flyers and received roughly 3 calls from them. Besides the design and print cost for flyers, you have to consider additional costs such as distribution. Sure, you could pass them all out on your own, but that requires a lot of time. Your time is money, not including the sore feet afterwards.
In the advancement of technology, there is new ways to market your business. Everything electronic is now connected. The world wide web is the new land of advertisement, information and transparency. Just like word of mouth, a bad review gets posted for everyone to see. Fraudulant companies can be exposed with a little bit of research and good reviews will increase your online reputation. The internet used to be a computer resource, but now it connects our phones, tablets, desktops, laptops, video game consoles and even some TVs. If a company isn't listed on the internet, most of the modern market will not know that you even exist.
First step in reaching the internet market is to research competitor websites. This will help you build up ideas on what your website should look like. One major component to a site is the domain name. This is basically the website address that usually used the company name or reflects the service/product that you provide. Once you see some competitor examples, you should gain some idea of that you would want to use. It may be best to write down several ideas in case some of them are already taken. Seek out a dot com or any other domain ending as well for the best results.
Now that you have seen some competitor websites, the next step is to hire a designer or use another method for building a web page. There is free site builders out there or do it yourself sites with premade templates. The downside to creating your own site is that you will not be able to maximize it for marketing, creative, or search engine optimization results. The quality of the content, tags, meta discriptions, social media links and many other factors will determine the SEO ranking of your website. Granted SEO is also a monthly service, the base ranking ability and natural chance to climb up the pages, use these factors. Professional web design uses several skills to balance the site with professional design, unique content, easy to use for all ages, clear marketing message, branding, SEO friendly and created to look advanced. No one calls a plain and empty looking site that uses out of date formats. This is now the world of HTML5 coding and media connecting.
Why did I single out the metro Detroit area? Obviously, my company is based in this area, so I know the need for it. Also, because of the hampered economy here. Websites are low cost advertising as long as you don't pay a high monthly maintenance fee. The base costs are hosting for like ten to fifteen dollars monthly and a domain renewal fee each year. Plus with the fast paced environment, we use our phones and computers for everything. The best way to be found is by having a good website that is SEO friendly and some social media. Any business who doesn't have a web presence seems to disappear, don't fade away like the rest. Hire a professional within the area to understands your market and places the design costs within your budget. Don't forget to ask plenty of questions and see the designers work so you find the right person for you. Good luck and I hope your company grows due it's professional and easy to find website.
