Subtle Ways to Help Grow Your Business

When firms seek to grow their business, they often seek out the minute details, trying to maximize sales by using complex metrics, crunching numbers to develop feasible strategies, and more. Of course, these tactics can be very useful, but sometimes simplicity can go a long way. It really does pay off to not overlook the little things, no mater the size of your company.

Utilizing Social Media the Right Way

Using social media is an important way to communicate with customers and clients. However, many companies use social media in a fashion that it is not intended. Chances are, if you tweet every five seconds and your Facebook timeline is flooded with posts that you made, your clients, customers, and potential customers are growing annoyed. Because of this, many of them may decide to unfollow you on Twitter, unlike your Facebook page, and abandon your reach in other social media platforms. Instead of using social media as an aggressive business tactic, seek to use it as a way to keep those you want to reach informed about the happenings of a business. Customers want to know when your newest line will become available, when you're having a sale, or when you have expanded into a new industry, but likely don't care to read every minute detail encompassing your firm.

Keeping a Professional Image

Maintaining professionalism for your business is paramount. Your office should convey professionalism, and your personal image should do the same. This doesn't have to mean outfitting your workspace with high-end office furniture or wearing Armani suits and Salvatore Ferragamo ties each day, but a clean appearance for your space and yourself can work wonders for your business. Keep your desk tidy, your office well lit, and your attire strictly professional. And if you're debating whether you should shave in the morning before heading to work, it is always better to choose yes.

Develop a Specialty

Developing a specialty is key in succeeding in a competitive marketplace. In a sense, it is better to know a lot about a little than a little about a lot. That's not to say you shouldn't offer a wide variety of products or services rather than focusing on just one or two, but having that one or two as your bread and butter can be extremely beneficial. On that same note, developing expertise in one or a few things can create the illusion, whether it is true or not, that you have similar expertise in the other products or services that you offer, and consumers will develop a better sense of trust in you for that. So, if you're not proficient in any particular area, there's no better time than now to improve on that; your business will likely improve as well.

Print Business Cards and Eat Lunch

Networking is also extremely important. Two simple ways to network without really having to work are by passing around business cards and sharing meals with individuals from other companies. Trying to give your business card to everyone you see and aggressively scheduling lunch dates can be unappealing, and may stunt business growth. However, keep a few business cards on your person at all times no matter where you are, because you can never tell when you'll run into an old friend, a new acquaintance, or someone interested in your business. Also, branch out beyond your tight-knit group of friends and colleagues, and have lunch with individuals from other companies and other industries from time to time. You might just be able to grow your business without even really trying. After all, it's just lunch.
