The Benefits of Taking a Boating Course

If you are operating a boat with a motor on any waters in Canada, you are required to be able to produce a certificate indicating you have completed the registered boating course. This is a legal requirement that'll help you stay clear of a $250.00 fine, but moreover, for practical purposes the information will keep you safer on the water, thereby enjoying the pleasure of boating uninhibited by financial penalties and dangers.

The course teaches you how to be safe on the water. The importance of this is hard to overstate because there are a surprising amount of deaths that happen every year which are totally preventable. In 2002 there were over 458 water-related fatalities. Of those, 383 were drowning victims of which 212 were recreational boating incidents. You'll learn about which demographic is the most susceptible to accidents (not surprisingly, males aged 18-24) and adverse behaviours that increase the likelihood of an accident like reckless driving and alcohol. To nobody's great surprise, a very small percent of those killed in a pleasure boating incident were found to be wearing lifejackets. The goal of this course is to ingrain all this information in your mind so that when you're out on the water abiding it will be your default position. You don't want to constantly be thinking about water safety when you're boating, you want to be freely enjoying yourself, but the course will make it so that the safety tips are subconsciously on your mind keeping you and everybody safe.

It goes without saying that you should always comply with the law. Should you decide to operate a boat without having taken the course, you won't receive your certified card and you may be fined $250.00. Even if you drive safely and you aren't pulled over on the water, the possibility of it happening will always lurk somewhere on your mind and you'll never be free of this plaguing consideration whenever you drive. This is an agony you can avoid with a small cost and a fair amount of time. There are different ways of taking the course and getting certified-you are able to do it online, so the excuse that your schedule is unrelenting or you're not based in a city centre doesn't apply. Access to the course and the exam is reasonably attained, and there's probably nothing they could do to make it more widely available.
The test even accommodates different learners by having the online modules and a centre where somebody instructs a class for three hours (the regulated amount of time you need to complete the course, whether in a classroom or online). Nobody is exempt from this process, and once you obtain your license you'll have it forever-it doesn't expire. It's the responsible thing to do and it's a legal requirement. Be sure that before you operate any boat, you've put your time in class and in the testing centre! Good luck and have fun.
