In my previous article titled "Social Networking Websites and Profile Security", I have called the attention of the social network site members to the danger of carelessly exposing his private information through his profile. I have equally advised such member on how to safeguard his profile information from intruders and spies. This article, however is to suggest what to input in your profile as a precautionary method.
Social networking websites, especially over the past couple of years, are popular because they easily allow you to find, connect with, and develop social and business friendships with other internet social network users, especially those that have the same interests as you do. In order to find such people, it becomes necessary for you to join a social networking website and create a personal profile. Actually your social networking profile is a very important avenue to making and finding friends on social Networking sites.
As I have just mentioned, your social networking personal profile is important when it comes to meeting other social network users. This is so because, mostly, internet users are looking to chat with someone who has the same views, beliefs, goals, and interests as they do. If you do not have a personal profile, it would be difficult or even totally unlikely to actually know what your interests are. This is the simple reason why your personal profile is not only important, but is also necessary.
A lot of focus has been placed on what you should include in your social networking profile or display on your profile page. Many people believe that pictures produce the best responses, as well as detailed personal information. Note that you may be getting views that you do not necessarily want even although a picture and detailed personal information may help to increase your page views. Another fact is that despite what you may accept as true, many social networking websites do not place much restrictions on who can have a look at your personal profile. In reality, ordinary online users, even those that do not belong to your online social community, can easily have a look at profile.
Since almost just anyone can see your social networking profile, on most social networking websites, I want to advise you to be cautious and to inform you on the best ways to protect your safety, both on and offline. . Essentially, this means that instead of concentrating on what you should put in your online profile, you should be focusing on what not to put.
Pictures are often recommended with social networking websites. If you are so keen at posting a personal picture of yourself in your online personal profile you may do so, but you are advised to carefully select that picture. It is better to avoid posting a picture that is too revealing or tempting in nature. Even though some internet users can look at these types of pictures without having any negative feeling, these types of pictures may spell danger for others .
In order to make it more difficult for anyone to try and contact you off of the internet, you are advised to only post your first name in your profile. You are also advised to carefully choose your location. Many online social networking sites require that you select a city, as well as a state. If it is permitted, you may only list your state and avoid the city. You may also think about using a nearby city or town, most especially if you live in a small town.
You are also advised, as another precautionary measure, not to post detailed information on your children, your income, the location of your home, or when you will be leaving for vacation. You should be able to enjoy online social networking without having to always look behind your back if only you can keep the above mentioned points in mind.
