Writing articles can be a fun experience, having been around a while online I know that to many "gurus" make article marketing boring, advising you outsource it, use old material and so on, while I personally do not really agree with those methods I can see where they are coming from. This article is mainly for those of us who put our brains in gear, type our own articles and want to get the best from each and every article! Think in terms of quality not quantity in your articles (granted both is even better!).
So after you have taken the time to write yourself a good quality article, you are happy with all aspect of it, the title is eye grabbing and your article reads perfectly where do you send it? Well to answer that question we should first take a look at the 2 key things your article is attempting to achieve!
Attract People to Your Article
Feed Those People To Your Site
I point out the obvious for a reason, to attract people your article needs to be seen, how are people going to notice your eye-catching title if it is not put in front of them? So you should take a look at if people are using that site! Most article directories today show how many users they have, along with the number of articles they currently have, take notice of these, are they changing on the directory you are looking to use? Are more articles being added DAILY? are new users showing up on a regular basis?
If the article directory you have chosen seems to be displaying the same stats day in and day out this usually shows that the directory is NOT growing, this means that the directory is not drawing in new people in general and the audience for you article is going to be fairly small!
You also need to look at how people are going to get from your article to your site! If the page in which your article will appear is highly populated with adverts and links are you going to get a great responses from that article? There are circumstances when you will want lots of links appearing on pages, this is usually to promote other articles on that site, take note of where they go and think about if your link will appear on other pages as well. If you can see that your article link will appear on other pages within that site then you can be confident that your article will get exposure and you will most likely get people return to your page.
There are no real right or wrong directories to submit to, however keep in mind that you want visitors, so be sure that your article is going on a site that has visitors! You can also pay attention to page rank (PR) if you are only adding articles in order to attempt to improve your PR rating. However I would still take notice of if that site is getting steady visitors.
