  • Why Do So Many Online Marketers Fail?
99 out of 100 online marketers fail at making much, if any, money online. Why won't they just follow this simple plan?
  • Discover Your Online Niche
I think without a doubt that choosing the right niche is the most important step an Internet marketer can take. If you get this step wrong, nothing else you do will matter. You can have the best-looking web site, you can understand search engine optimization very well, you can do a very good job in all of the areas of Internet marketing; but if you choose the wrong niche, then you are sunk before you start.

You could create a stylish web site, and I see it all the time where people spend hours creating a web site and getting it to look great, and spend an ample amount of time writing content. They know all about search engine optimization. They find key words and they optimize for the key words. Everything is done correctly. They publish to the web, and one of the hardest things I have to do when they ask me why they don't get traffic, is to tell them that they chose the wrong niche.

For one reason or another, the niche was not correct. If you get the wrong niche, like choose too large of a niche for example, then the competition is so great that it's all but impossible to get any traffic to the web site. Of course, traffic is one of the key principles to Internet marketing. Low traffic means there will be few if any sales. If you choose a niche that is too small of a market, you may be able to attract traffic and you may be able to rank well in the search engine, but the market is incredibly small that it wouldn't yield much of an income.

Before you do anything for your web site or your web business, prior to spending one minute writing content or building a web site, make sure that you understand how to do niche research. That's not about going out and looking at the keyword tools, whether you look at the three keyword tools or the purchased key word tool, you simply cannot rely on those alone.

Too many marketers, and myself included, have made that mistake of using the keyword tools to direct us on the web site that we create and the keywords that we use to optimize the content with. That is a huge mistake.

The keyword tools are great for brainstorming, but you must go the extra mile and do the real keyword research methods to determine which keywords are valid for your niche. Doing the research will also tell you if the niche poses great possibility or the niche is a bad idea, and we want to know that before we go into building the web site. There are no guarantees, of course, but we can sure make a very educated guess as to our chances of success.

If you just pick a niche out of the blue and use the free keyword tool to validate your idea, it's a lot like playing darts in the dark. You simply cannot base your web site or your business on the free keyword tools. You must perform extra steps to validate that the niche you selected is correct and viable.
  • Avoid Internet Marketing Scams
I hope that as you read this, you have not yet fallen for one of the online scams or mistakes Internet marketers often make! Most scams target beginners who are finding ways to make huge sums of money by tomorrow.

Does the offer promise things that sound too good to be true? If the offer promises you to make hundreds and thousands of dollars per day for a couple of hours of work, well your personal alarms should tell you, it is too good to be true. There are no shortcuts to the basics. If they offer you such, you should know that they are just too good to be true.

Data Entry and Type at Home - These are the really big ones! Why can't I get people to pay me $49.99 as easy as these sites do? Well, because, I do not play on the "get rich quick" emotions. If you think someone will pay you good money just to fill out forms, I would like to sell you my house overlooking the ocean here in Oklahoma.

eMail Blasts - These sound great and easy. For $39.99 you can send e-mails to 2.5 million people. I choose not to go into details here, but trust me when I say these are a complete waste of time and money. Instead, create your own list.

Get Your Site on Page One of Google - Guaranteed, for only $89.99! Sounds great right? Yes, it does, until your discover that you do not choose your keywords, as they use their choice of keywords related to your niche. They optimize your page for a very long-tail keyword.

?For example, if your site sells leather dog collars, they will optimize your page for something like "buy cheap leather dog collars". Yes, you will get on the first page for that term, but the problem is: How many people do you think actually search for that term in Google? If you can find an approximate answer for that, you will understand why it's a scam. If you do not know how many people search for that term, you must learn how to perform keyword research, and learn more about ranking well with SEO in correct ways!

    Instant Site Creation Packages -

If you do not know how to create your own website, don't think paying $49.99 will help you become successful with that. The bottom line is: if you do not even know how to create a simple site, then you most probably will not attain success in the field of Internet marketing. Stop trying to find shortcuts. If you want to succeed in the Internet, then you must know how to make a website. It is plain and simple. If somebody offers you an offer promising success even if you know absolutely nothing about creating sites, you might get results that were far different form what you paid for or expected.

Link Farming - This one might be one of the worst online scams! They offer to get you thousands of incoming links, but doing this will get you labeled as a spammer in Google's eyes. Avoid these offers totally. Otherwise, your site might get banned from Google.

Free Classified Sites - These are more of time wasters than actual scams. Many people have told me that they spent weeks submitting hundreds of free ads, yet they get no affiliate sales. Where do you go when looking to purchase something? Think about it. Have you ever even browsed those free classified sites for anything?

Free Hosting -Again, these aren't scams; they just aren't very good ideas. Many free hosting packages put their ads on your site. These free hosts often put server limitations on what may be done with respect to the code of your site. You can get real web hosting for as little as three or four dollars, monthly. If you aren't even willing to invest that much for your business, then you might want to ask yourself if you are really committed to it or not.
  • Is Internet Marketing Right For You?
    Low Risk - High Reward!

Have you ever experienced having your brick and mortar business fail? I have, and it was not a pleasant experience, to say the least. The losses it brought me were painful and they were a huge factor for me to decide that I was going to start online marketing. The internet offers the most attractive risk versus reward equation you could ever find.

To make my point clearer, take a look at this:

We began CactusCanyon.com for only $3.95 for a monthly hosting package, and $9.95 for a yearly domain name. $200 was the wholesale price for the first case of products we bought, and we had made our first sale within a few weeks after this new website. We only purchased one case at a time for the following weeks. I was determined not to over extend my self, my assets and my business as I had done before with my brick and mortar business. Soon we were able to buy 2 cases at a time, and the number slowly kept growing, and growing, and growing.

My marketing was 99% SEO, so there were virtually no marketing costs. Google loved the site, and we, in turn, loved Google. We have also managed to learn a lot in a short period of time about credit cards, shopping carts, shipping, and many other necessary know-how. It definitely was, and still is, a fun ride. After two years of running the business in the evenings, and on weekends, my wife decided to quit her job. The next year, I quit mine and we started Weber Internet Marketing.

If you have a better risk vs. reward example, let me know. I am currently having the time of my life and would love to have you on board.

    How Big Is Your Dream?

In my line of work, I have dealt with a lot of new internet marketers who have not yet succeeded in making money online. These people are my target audience and I have learned much about them, through experience, throughout the years. I have also seen many beginners progress and become successful online.

Unfortunately, there are a larger percentage of novice internet marketers that do not succeed; and blame their failures on a lot of different things.

Excuses I have heard from beginners:

    They didn't have enough brains.
    They didn't have ample time.
Their partners and spouses did not support them.
They couldn't afford a web editor or hosting.
The niche they chose was wrong.
Their computer is not fast enough.
    No one would support them.
They started Internet marketing too late.
Their country does not support PayPal
...and even their stars were not aligned correctly!

Yes, I have heard it all.

But those are plain excuses, and I have always believed that people who are full of excuses lack a big enough dream. No matter what you are getting yourself in to, you need to have a big enough dream to beat down every excuse you have.

If your dream is big enough, every single excuse just disappears. The dream needs to be so huge that you feel it; you taste it; and you live it everyday. People who succeed always have their dreams on their minds. However, it is easy to get overwhelmed by the size of your dream, and all there is to learn and know about the venture of your choice. And that is where I can help.

Internet marketing is not paint-by-numbers, however, much like connecting-the dots, it requires you to combine certain skills, principles and knowledge to create a profitable business. I still remember the difficulty I had, trying to go through this process, when I was still starting out with internet marketing. But, all you need right now is for someone to show you a clear path.

If I had only been able to ask somebody who was experienced and learned about internet marketing, when I was starting out in this field, I would have eliminated a lot of dead-ends I eventually hit. With my business, I combine my passion for online marketing and my love for teaching others. My goal is for you, novice internet marketers, to enjoy and achieve the level of success I have managed to.
  • 10 Beginning Internet Marketers' Mistakes
Novice internet marketers commit the same mistakes over and over again. I have worked with a lot of them, and I see them committing the same mistakes that I once did when I was starting. I realized that the quicker you learn how to focus and weed out the dead ends, the quicker you will become successful.

    1. There are a myriad of hosting plans available where domains are hosted for not more than ten dollars. Actually, I believe that you should never pay more than six dollars for your hosting. I have even spoken to one beginner who paid $19.95 to host one simple site, when there are a lot of different options and plans available.

    2. Beginners usually put many affiliate links and AdSense ads on their pages. Although, this is respectable, we believe that less truly is more. Do not make your site look like it was made for the sole purpose of acquiring money. Offer interesting, quality content and lesser ads.

    3. If you do not have a website, Goggle AdWords is a good way to promote affiliate products. Google makes it easy to get your campaign running in a few minutes. However, AdWords requires a lot of money and practice to become somewhat successful. Some people have even woken up one day to find that they had a two thousand dollar bill from AdWords. If you do not know how to avoid this happening to you, do not even start thinking of using this.

    4. Original content is key. Novice internet marketers often think that Google can identify whether the content is already found on another sites or from purchased private label rights articles. One must write his/her original content or pay a writer to do it for them. Plug your page's URL into copyscape.com to find out if any of your content is duplicated.

    5. It is very aggravating for someone to take an image from your site and use it on theirs. If you need high quality photos, istockphoto.com is the best place to get any picture you may need for your site for a couple of dollars. For this low price you are given legal rights to use the photos.

    6. Focus. Sometimes, novice internet marketers have too much information at hand, that they do not know where to give their attention to, and they start a dozen different projects all. Do not spread yourself too thin. If you want to succeed, give your projects ample time and attention. Focus your efforts on a few projects you could actually manage.

    7. If you are still beginning, use the free PayPal shopping cart system first, instead of investing your time and effort in a high-end shopping cart system. If you are trying to sell physical items on your site, the PayPal shopping cart is ideal because it does not require you to create a merchant account and setting it up is easy as pie. Once you have started making several sales per day, you may look for a more robust cart. Instead of wasting time on setting up an advanced shopping cart, use it to market the site.

    8. Many beginners give in to the allure of "get rich quick" offers, which, unfortunately, turn out to be scams. Do not spend your money on information products just yet since it is easy for you to fall into some of these scams.

    9. Do not pay to be listed in a lot of different search engines. All you have to do is get in the top 5 search engines. Get some one-way links to your site, if you wanted to get listed fast. Submit to article directories or regular link directories. These methods actually work better than submitting your link directly to Yahoo or Google.

    10. Do not expect to have income straight away. That is near impossible. It will take you several months of dedicated work to receive a steady income.
  • How to Make Online Money
Making money online was a personal goal. I have always wanted to make money online; however, I did not know how to start, where to go, what sites to visit and who to look for. I just knew that I wanted to do something online, and make money out of it, but I could not think of anything concrete.

One day I had an epiphany. I realized that there are a lot of people who have been successful with online transactions and online businesses. I refused to believe that they were luckier than I am, or that they were more skilled or talented, so I decided to find out what the keys to their successes were.

I studied long and hard, purchased eBooks and read everything that was relevant to the topic. Soon after, I decided that I was going to sell a nutritional supplement online. The funny part is that I had been giving this old supplement to my dog for two years. I was trying to figure out how to be successful online, when the answer was right in front of me all along!

It took me a while to understand that I could sell these supplements online, because, like many novice internet marketers, I had very little knowledge about marketing over the web. Ironically, once internet marketers have enough skills and knowledge to understand how internet marketing works, they have too many ideas, thus giving them a difficult time to find their focus.

More importantly, internet marketers must realize that there is rarely a need to reinvent the pre-existing systems in internet marketing. Oftentimes, trying to do which results in disaster. It is better to learn from other successful internet marketers, tweaking and adjusting their proven systems to fit your case, instead of building a brand new system.

One reference that is worth checking out is a book written by 20 members of Willie Crawford's group, Inner Circle Group. This very interesting book features several chapters written by successful internet marketers, describing how they started earning at least a $100 a day.

The book, filled with eye-openers that stimulate idea-generation, is a testament of the many opportunities available to everyone online.

Other than the books I have actually written, this is one of the few I recommend to my clients. I enjoyed it because it wasn't a "how-to" book, it wasn't a guide, but some opportunities were presented. I think, if you could not even find and identify these opportunities, then you probably aren't ready for internet marketing yet.

Moreover, everyone who buys Crawford's book get to join a 100% affiliate program. That means, all buyers may sell the book as an affiliate for a 100% affiliate commission. And the book is not even that tough to sell, the sales page converts very well.
  • Why Internet Marketing is Great for Creating a Home Business
It is quite possible you are right now in the same boat I was several years ago. I had a good job and was making pretty fair money. However, I could not see myself doing what I was for the rest of my life.

Too much stress...not enough time for important things...no real hope of anything changing unless I took action. I tried many ideas in the past while attempting independence. There was always something in me searching for a life better than a 40 hour per week job answering to a boss.

Luckily a while back I became interested in Internet marketing. It seemed to offer everything I was looking for:

    - I could stay home and work from there!

    - I alone would reap ALL the rewards of my work and creativity.

    - I would not be limited by salary schedules or the need for promotions to increase my standard of living.

    - Basically, I would have control over my life's direction.

Internet marketing looked like a perfect fit! When I set out on the online marketing path, I of course was a complete beginner. I did not have the first clue as to what I was doing.

I fell into the same traps and went down the same wrong roads which I now see so many beginners doing on a day to day basis. I have said it time and again and I know I will have to keep saying it, but if you want success in the Internet marketing business you simply have to have a firm foundation in the basics principle of Internet marketing.

You will not make a dime of profit (short of luck here and there) until you learn and are able and willing to apply the basic principles of online marketing. Forget for now about replacing your full time income!

Just making a few hundred dollars per month on a regular basis is a big enough goal for now. Even with that modest goal, all the basics have to be in place. There are no shortcuts. The basics are pretty simple really. Learn basic page design. Learn SEO techniques.

Learn how to choose the correct keywords to optimize your pages with. Sounds pretty simple I'd say! And it is! However, there is much study and practice involved in applying those skills effectively. Here is where most beginners get stuck:

They may read and study about the basic principles, but they don't follow through with action. MASSIVE action is required to really learn how all the pieces fit together. Trial and error is part of the process! If you don't learn the art of "failing fast" and working your tail off until one of your projects gets some traction, you'll forever be at the 9 to 5 job.

If your first idea doesn't work (I will bet you it doesn't), then you try again - learning from your past mistakes - and again. If you want it badly enough, you WILL keep working at it until you succeed!

Ok, finally for the really good news: Once you learn how to create a stream of income online, even just a few hundred dollars per month, you THEN know how to wash, rinse, and repeat your way to greater success!

Once you are at that minimum level, things get very exciting! You will then see a VERY bright light at the end of the tunnel! You'll have your dream shortly! Ok, now get to work on your dream!
  • Discover Your Internet Niche
I think without a doubt that choosing the right niche is the most important step an Internet marketer can take. If you get this step wrong, nothing else you do will matter. You can have the best-looking web site, you can understand search engine optimization very well, you can do a very good job in all of the areas of Internet marketing; but if you choose the wrong niche, then you are sunk before you start.

If you just pick a niche out of the blue and use the free keyword tool to validate your idea, it's a lot like playing darts in the dark. You simply cannot base your web site or your business on the free keyword tools. You must perform extra steps to validate that the niche you selected is correct and viable.
  • Ten Roadblocks to Online Marketing Success
I have a lot of experience working with beginners in Internet marketing and I notice that most of them are committing the same mistakes. I, too, learned the hard way since I made the same errors when I started in this business. Although experience is the best teacher, it is also good if you learn from other people's mistakes. You will most likely achieve your goals faster if you are aware of these mistakes and be able to identify the hindrances in your path.

    1. Never spend too much on your domain hosting. You have to be practical and careful on the money you take out of your pocket. Do your research. You can most definitely find something less than 10 dollars for an unlimited domain hosting.

    2. You probably heard about the saying, "Less is More." You should apply this concept in terms of placing ads in your website. If you have too much ads or links in your website, your visitors will make an impression that you just want to profit from them. The best way to do it is put more good content and less ads in your website.

    3. Many Internet marketers make a lot of money using Google AdWords. Google AdWords allows you to earn by advertising products even if you do not have a website, and setting up your own ad campaigns is easy. This can be very profitable, however, if you are not familiar on the ins and outs of AdWords, then be prepared to lose some money. I am not talking about fifty-dollar loss; I'm talking about thousand dollars worth of money. Only when you are confident about what you're getting into, should you use AdWords. It takes a lot of skill, practice and uh, money.

    4. Good content is your way to success. But take note, it should be original, unique content. Many beginners assume that they can get away with copyrighted content, but they are very mistaken. Be careful in what you post in your websites because you'll never know how much it can destroy you and your reputation. A great Internet marketer doesn't need to be a great writer. You can write your ideas and have a writer rewrite it, or you can pay someone to write for you. That's if you are not good in writing, but let me tell you it doesn't hurt to try. You can use Copyscape to verify your content or your writer's content as well.

    5. The same goes for the images you post in your website. Be careful with that as well because you can also get in trouble copy pasting images from other websites. That might be permitted if you are posting images from affiliate websites, but check to make sure. If you do not have photography skills, then you can pay a small amount and get a decent image in istockphoto.com so you can have original pictures in your website.

    6. There is a lot of information about Internet marketing online and reading about all of these techniques and data can be overwhelming. Beginners tend to begin with multiple projects in numerous areas. If you have a team to do this, then maybe that's fine but if it's just you then it might not be such a good idea. In the long run, you'll have many projects but none of them is making money. You need to concentrate on few projects, exerting efforts in developing them rather than trying to be Superman.

    7. If you decide to sell products in your website, initially use free shopping cart systems like the one PayPal is offering. You do not need to set-up a merchant account and it's effortless to create. Do not invest in expensive shopping cart systems until you have enough money to do so. You might as well exhaust your time marketing for your products and your website as opposed to worrying about how your shopping cart looks like.

    8. There are many products online that offer get-rich-quick methods. They look and sound very effective too. Do not be fooled by scammers. Get free information, talk to fellow Internet marketers, read their websites and follow their guidelines. There are no "secrets" on how to get rich and more so, there is no easy way to get there.

    9. Do not pay to get listed. Beginners are easily deceived by these strategies. You do not need to be listed to hundreds of search engines; you just need to make it to the top 5. In conclusion, don't pay for anything to escape from the hard work required from you. There are many ways to get your site listed such as optimizing your keywords, submitting articles to different websites or if allowed, participating in link directories. These techniques demand a lot of time and work but it has definite and better outcomes.

    10. Last but definitely not the least, the number one mistake that most beginners make is to assume that income is easy and instant. If you expect that you are going to earn right away, I'm sorry but you're not. Each Internet marketer's story of success is unique. Depending on how much work you put into, it can take up to several months or longer. If you become successful, however, you will most definitely enjoy your substantial income.

    Good Luck!

  • Top Tips For Beginning Internet Marketers
I work with many beginners and I see them making the same mistakes over and over. In fact, I made many of these same mistakes myself when I began online marketing. I have here a list of the biggest ten mistakes that are very commonly made by newbie online marketers.

    1. I see too many newbies paying $20 per month or more for hosting their sites. There is absolutely no reason for this. An excellent hosting account can be bought for five or six dollars each month. This is more than enough for most beginning Online newbies needs.

    2. Many beginners begin their sites by sticking many affiliate links all over the pages. This is a huge mistake. When Google sees a page with many affiliate links all across it, they are liable to believe it is nothing but another affiliate site. They do not like sites made specifically for affiliate marketing products. Don't make yours look like another spam site made only for affiliate marketing.
