Many women say their weight gain happened during and after their first pregnancy (with men it just happens), and that is no mistake. Pregnant women need to gain weight for a successful pregnancy. Usually healthy weight gain is between 25 to 35 pounds during a woman's pregnancy, but it can be as much as 45 pounds if twins are involved. You should not go on a diet when you are pregnant, but you should still be conscious of your weight. Before going on any type of diet while pregnant talk to your doctor! One thing is sure, though - you will be heavier after the birth of your child, and it will take a bit of work to get your pre-pregnancy body back. It is best to come up with a plan in the early stages of your pregnancy, because afterwards you will have a whole new schedule, and it will be hard to enact any changes that don't directly involve your new baby. Everything is accelerated, and it will seem (and this will be true) that you have much less time even while time seems to be going much faster. This will make eating healthy even more difficult than normal, with fast food and other processed food options seeming to be the answer for a busy, hectic day. But this is the time when you should be concentrating on fixing healthy, home prepared meals. Not only will this make it easier for you to eat healthy and lose your pregnancy weight, it will also set important habits of healthy eating, which will be even more important when your baby is old enough to share the same meals you eat. Making sure you go back to a recommended calorie count and ensuring that you are getting a healthy mix of foods, concentrating on leafy green vegetables and other healthy food items, and staying away from processed food swill make it much easier to shed your post pregnancy weight. Resuming a regular exercise schedule can be even harder than making sure you are eating wholesome, nutritious foods - as mentioned before, get ready for major scheduling upheavals! But it is still possible to get a great amount of exercise, even if it is harder to get to the gym. According to recent studies, walking outdoors is a great way to get exercise that benefits both the mind and the body, and as we now know walking is even healthier than jogging or running. If you live in an area where you can walk safely with a stroller, or can get to such an area easily, this is a great way to spend time with your child and get some of the best exercise possible at the same time. And, as with healthy diets for the whole family, exercising as a family will also set important precedents for your family and your children. They will grow up with two great habits, exercising and spending time together as a family! So don't hesitate, make a pregnancy recovery plan.
